2019 Update - Let's GO!
It's another 2019 Update post!
Here I am on Lesson 7 of Level 4! Loving the training! Easy to follow and it makes a lot of sense.
My progress thus far (went Premium in April 2018):
-Most of the training done, website built
-Speed improved from D or F score in GTMetrix to A (now 100 in Google PageSpeed Insights!)
$155.96 in affiliate commissions last year for my first year doing affiliate marketing (though mostly through niche forums and facebook groups rather than directly from my site I think)
-Excited about this year and beyond!
Niche Forums - An Underrated Tool?
With the status of the main forum for my niche in doubt, I used my site to create a new forum for fans of my niche. I think this could potentially be an underrated tool for the whole niche website thing. If you have a niche that includes lots of opportunities for discussion, creating a forum and letting people have personal accounts on your website is a cool way to get repeat traffic when they return to your site. My goal is to make my site the #1 online "hub" for my "micro niche". I would venture a guess that the more narrow the niche is, the more likely you could create a vibrant community of other fanatics that share the same interests as you, though of course it could mean "competing" with stuff like Facebook groups and discord servers. (for anyone wondering, I'm using the bbPress and buddypress plugins for the forum and membership stuff)
What have I learned? Technical issues are abound!! :( Unfortunately, there's "always something" that could be improved on the technical end of things with websites it seems. I'm not very knowledgeable about the technical side of websites, but now I feel comfortable editing code, changing my .htaccess file, implementing slightly complicated solutions found in search results, and other things that can further optimize my site. It's a bit frustrating sometimes, but so far I've been able to solve most of the issues that have come up.
Successes: Beyond my financial success in my first calendar year, I'm happy to say that some of the community for my micro niche has migrated to my website and the active community is slowly growing. I've also been pleased to see some organic comments on a few posts and pages just this year.
Just recently, I've been very excited to see that not only is my site ranking on the first page of google search results for the main name of the niche, it's just ahead of the game's pages at BoardGameGeek and reddit, two authority sites that I'm already beating out! (this may sound impressive, but the niche is so small that I'm making far more content in it than everyone else combined, so it's easy to surpass other sites in terms of content creation and volume) Hopefully this doesn't jinx it lol, I'm #5 on the first page behind only the main site for the niche, Wikipedia, eBay and Amazon. :D
Plans and Goals: In the next 3 months, I hope to not just finish the WA Training for my first site, but also work on the lengthy google doc I have regarding lots of little changes and improvements I hope to make for the site. In the next 6 months, I plan to keep on producing the content I love making within the niche, and maybe even move on to a second website if I am satisfied with the first. (baseball would be the second niche, much broader but probably much more profitable)
Get after it in 2019I like to be motivated by the best. I want to be the best in my field (in this case my micro niche), to be #1 in a certain thing. Even if you're not a fan of American football, it's hard not to get pumped up by the sheer epicness and dominance of Tom Brady.
Somehow I wasn't already following him on Instagram, and the first post I saw did not disappoint!!
This is the type of thing that can help you keep going when the day drags and you don't want to do stuff. Let the hype flow through you! Let's GO!
