Strange bears 101 project

I want to tell you about my "Strange Bears 101" project. To start at the beginning, I love bears. My first experience with bears began when I was about six. Dad and I were going camping in Yosemite, it was to become a yearly expedition. This time we were driving along the road and cars in front of us were pulling over and people were getting out to "look." Dad did the same. We got out to "look and see" what everyone was stopping for. It was a bear. Dad wanted to take a picture, so I stood by the tree and pointed. The bear turned to look at me and Dad snapped the picture, grabbed my hand and walked back to the car. Some years later I found that picture. Best memory of all. Fast forward to 2010. I started taking a ceramics class at the local college. One of our first projects was to make an "animal." I made a bear. During midterms we had to show off our projects and tell how they were made, what we glazed them with, and whether we liked it, etc. Being the person I am who can't stand to talk in front of a group, I had to start with a story, so I took my picture and told my bear story and told about my bear I made. The teacher loved it, I passed him my picture first and he passed the picture around. The next semester, I didn't have a bear to show and tell, but I had to bring my picture and tell my "bear" story.

In 2012, my ceramics classes came to a halt. My husband was involved in a very serious car accident when he was rear-ended by someone texting, not looking to see that traffic was stopped. At 75 miles an hour the little blue car behind my husbands S-10 pickup was shoved under the axle and sent the truck flying, Dave was sent to the hospital and released five hours later. He required many trips to the doctor and several months of treatment. He will never be the same but we are blessed with the healing that he has received. Our income is drastically reduced and we are still waiting for the lawsuit to be resolved.

I am continuing to do little ceramic projects on my patio table. I haven't been able to figure out how to fire anything, all my projects are little lumps of clay sitting on the table/shelf, waiting to be fired and finished.

At this writing I have 14 little bears, an owl, a reindeer, a snowman, a pig, a penguin and Alice's white rabbit.
