Has Life Punched You in the Face?

I'm not a fan of boxing or any other violent sport.

But the reality is that every now and then life will punch you on your face.

You'll have challenges.

You'll fail over and over again.

You'll get knocked down.

Brian Tracy likes to ask from his audience, "Is there anyone here who has ever had any problems in his life?"

Everyone raises their hands.

The question is not whether or not you will have challenges.

The question is how will you respond to your challenges.

The winners are made in the moments of struggle.

The winners fail much more than failures ever will.

The winners will try, try, try, try, try, try, try.... UNTIL THEY SUCCEED!

Failures quit at their first failure.

Some failures try a few times and then they they quit because "it was too hard". Truth: It's never too hard. You'll just need to practice more.

As Jim Rohn likes to say, "Don't wish it was easier, wish you were better."

Remember this next time when you'll face challenges:

YOUR RESPONSE to the challenges will define whether you'll succeed or fail.

Everyone faces challenges. How you'll respond to them makes the difference.

Be a winner.

You're right, Roope! We must keep moving forward. There's a lot to be learned from failure if we don't give up. Failure can motivate us to dig deeper and learn how to succeed. Btw... Brian Tracy & Jim Rohn are on my list of favorite business coaches. Thanks for the post! :)

Have a great week!

Hello Roope,

This post of yours struck a chord in me as it brought me back to an experience I had several years ago.

I was elected the District Director (then called District Governor) of a Toastmasters District in Southern California. Every District had two missions. To help all its members achieve their speaking and communication goals. And to help add new clubs and members to the District.

We had metrics that tracked the progress of every District in the World. Since the Toastmasters Year spans from July 1 to June 30, the deadline to meet these goals was on June 30th.

With one month left to meet our goals, our District was in last place statistically compared to all the other Districts in the world. We had so many nay-sayers who told me I should give up. We could never catch up with so little time left.

I felt like I was punched in the face! However, I never gave up because I could see we were very close to achieving our goals.

Come June 30th, 2007, we reached our goals. When the stats were updated on July 1st, our district standing leapfrogged from last place into the Distinguished tier.

At the International Convention in August, I was presented with the Distinguished District Plaque that validated my belief and that of my leadership team, that we would make it as long as we didn't give up.

As you stated, we tried and tried and tried again and again until we succeeded.

Cheers.

Edwin

Good morning Roope,

Thank you for your blog post. I hope you're doing well.

Thank you for your very wise and encouraging words; they are so true! Every one of us has had problems and had a bad day! Giving up is not an option; we have to keep pushing through!

I often think about the highly successful people in the world; I'm sure they have absolutely massive problems every day or probably almost every minute! However, they choose to be overcome and keep pushing forward! We have to do the same.

Wishing you a great Sunday.

Roy

Awesome article…Now I can relate to boxing. You never get out if the ring you just sharpen your skills. That’s why you train to dodge and block the hits. You exercise and sharpen your skills. Before you know it your moving up rank and get getting more exposure. Which always leads to more money
