Goal Setting - Stretch Yourself

Grant Cardone, in his book "The 10X Rule," writes:

"Any goal you set is going to be difficult to achieve, and you will inevitably be disappointed at some points along the way. So why not set these goals much higher than you deem worthy from the beginning? If they are going to require work, effort, energy, and persistence, then why not exert 10 times as much of each? What if you are underestimating your capabilities?"

Why would we underestimate our capabilities? Maybe it is fear - fear of failure, fear of trying something new, fear of what others think of us, fear of (you fill in the blank). Fear will dictate our goals (or lack thereof) if we let it. We may even be unaware it is there pulling the strings behind the scenes. A goal in my opinion, should be set high enough that it becomes uncomfortable for us to achieve. This way it helps to motivate us to face our fears, conquer them, and move out of our comfort zone into new, undiscovered territory. That is the way to grow, personally and professionally. The alternative is to stay within the comfortable four walls that we are familiar with, but eventually that leads to nowhere - no growth, no development, no hope for a brighter future for us and our families. Today, I have come to the place within myself where maintaining the financial status quo for myself and my family is not acceptable. Living paycheck to paycheck is no longer good enough. My family deserves better than that. The financial shadow of the past will no longer affect the brightness of my families future.

Jim Rohn said, "If you want things to change, you have to change." I am done waiting for my company to change, my boss to change, the government to change, the economy to change, my friends to change. Change has to begin with me - I have to develop it within myself - in the way I think, in the way I speak, in the way I behave, in the way I respond to difficulty, and yes, in the way I set goals for myself.

These thoughts have helped to shape the way I think about the goals I'm setting with the WA opportunity. Does it help shape yours? What do you think?

it is good to have that big goal that you have to stretch to accomplish,

but you also need the little goals that are easy to check off along the way

all the best,
