Everyone Starts Somewhere

I didn’t post on my niche site today. And I’m fine with that. Why? Because I’ve now got the most maintained garden on the street. Just the back one left to tackle tomorrow.

At one point, I had to take a mandatory break — you know, when the strimmer head needs re-lining? Anyway, I went in for a glass of juice, and my other half says: “Look at this.”

For context, I watch a lot of YouTube streamers. (Detest telly). What she showed me was a video on Facebook — a guy trying to do a vlog about a place not far from us.

He was going for that documentary style: tripod set up, walk into the scene, then cut out the setup bits in editing. Clearly a beginner.

She (kind of) asked, “He’s not good, is he?”

I could see what was going on. The guy was just starting out, not quite sure how to piece it all together (yet).

My guess is he’s aiming for monetisation on Meta, TikTok, maybe YouTube. And since platforms often have minimum video lengths, he was probably stretching things out — talking slow, repeating himself... just to make the runtime.

Once I explained, she asked, "Should I follow him?”

Absolutely. I told her: “Yes, follow. You’ll see him improve. More so if others follow, because that’s a sign of encouragement.”

And here’s the point for us at WA: many people here are in the exact same spot as that guy. Starting out. Not polished. Not perfect.

But that’s fine. Everyone starts at the start. The important thing isn’t whether you’re flawless right away. It’s that you 'start'.

And with time, encouragement, and practice — you get better.

So if you’re doubting yourself because your site doesn’t look “pro” yet, or your first blog post feels clunky, remember this: the only way to reach the point of being good is to push through the stage of being a beginner.

Keep going. You’ll improve. And others will see it too.

Thanks Timothy. When you feel like you're past the stage of being a beginner, you'll go onto something else, going right back to beginner phase again. Like, once you know WordPress, then it's each of the social platforms, plus graphic design, email marketing and video marketing. Always something new to learn. Never a boring day lol.

“Just Do It”

I agree, Robert.

When I was just starting out, I often found myself fixated on things like layout, theme, and word count. It made it challenging to make progress. However, looking back now, I'm just grateful that I took the first step.

Exactly, Alice. That’s the approach I love... get the content out first, worry about all the extras later. The posts that perform can always be dressed up with pics or a new theme. And the practice along the way makes everything else easier later.

Indeed. 👍

Thanks, Robert.

Thanks, Wen. I was just about to head to bed and I thought that story would be "encouraging". If I didn't share it tonight, I'd have forgot by morning. I think more people are becoming clued into online personalities trying to make a living. And are totally supportive.

You are most welcome Robert! glad that you share it before bed time or else it will keep you awake hehehe good night Robert!

Exactly Robert. I rarely edit my videos. :-)

I prefer the streams of people just talking to their audience. I think it's a gimble they use. The thing that holds the camera in front as they just walk around talking. No edits needed.

Thanks for sharing Robert!
