Watch out Google bites!

After a fair bit of keyword research I spent a few days last week working up a whats on site for my local area aimed at outdoor activities, a brave choice this time of year but thinking ahead to next summer.

Happy with the site loaded with all the usual social media toys and good SEO I introduced it to Google webmaster tools well pleased to see it appear in the index a day later with all the title tags and descriptions as they were meant to be. (Google does like to change things some time)

Carried on adding more content to the website over the next few days only to be halting after doing a Google site: search. Not a single trace of my site in the index at all, had to check a few times to make sure my spelling was correct but it was gone.

Thinking to myself that the were bloody quick to deindex a new site I shot of a reconsideration request to Google after going over my site and correcting anything that may be a problem. The thing is I have built some sites by hand in HTML that were rushed and full of open tags, crap SEO and little good content which have sat on the index for weeks as the defects were ironed out but something that was lovingly constructed go binned after 2 days :)

Certainly makes me think that the level of data the big G has to handle does not give them effective control over the short time quality of the sites in its index.

Anyway all is good as the site popped up again today almost as quick as it went away giving me the idea that maybe it wasn't a slap on the wrist as I always thought that getting a site back into the search would take longer?

Feel free to educate me as this has never happened to me before.

(Any spelling of grammatical errors are down to me either through too much or not enough coffee)

Google can be a maze.

Good advice from DomW. Patience does it!

Never been good at the patience thing, but I try a little everyday..

It's possible you hit different data centers the next time around, Google splits the web up into zones and it might take a few weeks before a site really settles in the rankings

Went through a piece on big G,s data centers a while back and now you mention it that does seem the more likely reason. Cheers Dom
