Lionesses Roar

The Lionesses of England beat the Matildas of Australia in a thrilling semi final of the womens football world cup. The game was a tremendous advert for the sport and will only have a positive impact in both countries.

From a tremendously biased English perspective I'm absolutely delighted to have bragging rights over a couple of Aussie mates who teased me over the Ashes and the Netball.

Any sport at the top level requires tremendous commitment and dedication. We only see the end result on the field of play and we can learn a lot from sportspeople in our businesses.

Whilst there is a long history of sporting rivalry it's always wonderful to see good sportsmanship which was in evidence here. Well done to both teams and I'm delighted England won.

Hi.
Whilst there is a long history of sporting rivalry it's always wonderful to see good sportsmanship which was in evidence here. Well done to both teams and I'm delighted England won.

England .
Now to go against...

In my opinion, Women play soccer better than most men.
The men are "Pussies" and the women are without "Pussie."

The final coming up will prove the same.

Thank you Rick Sea.

I think that it will be a perfect game.

Who takes "Third Place?"

Thanks Paul.
It is good to see women playing the game without rolling around, feigning injuries, press-ganging the ref and trying to get opponents booked which detracts from the men's game.
Well done to both teams and the third place will be decided on Saturday when Australia play Sweden.

All good my friend.
Saturday will decide the 3rd.
Sunday will decide the 1st and 2nd.

Take great care.

Paul from Canada.

The Lionesses were tough, focused and mounted such a tight defense. Mackenzie Arnold is a great goalkeeper (possibly the best in the world) but the English strikers were just too accurate. But what a boost to women's sport.

A great boost to women's sport, particularly in the UK where a huge number of girls stop doing any sporting activity when they reach their teens.

I suspect the next generation of Matildas are already training hard.

Same with the Lionesses. Their success has led to an unprecedented in the number of girls playing football. Only a few years ago the majority of schoolgirls didn't have access to playing football which was considered to be a boys sport!

Soccer is our third football code here, but women's sport has taken off in all three in just the last few years.

That's great! Fantastic! Congrats to your team. :)

Thanks Myra and I believe the overall winner was women's football.

And how loud they roared Rick!!

A fantastic result at the end of a fantastic match!

All credit to the Matildas for a wonderful tournament but I, like you, could do with some bragging rights after what has happened over the summer between us and our Aussie cousins!!

Bring on the Spanish!! :-)

It was indeed a fantastic match Nick and I'm very much looking forward to the game on Sunday.
I agree, credit to Australia for such a great tournament.

As am I my friend! :-)

US stunk this year. So glad so many of those players won't be on our next team. Sorry, but once we were out I did quit watching, though many of my European and APAC colleagues remain glued to their sets, especially our London office. Good luck!

Thanks Jeannine. I totally agree, I have limited interest in games not involving England or at club level Liverpool.
