Absolute madness!
Hey everyone,
I just wanted to share a quick story with you guys about my website that has actually blown my mind a little.
The story so far...
So, I started my blog almost a year ago (signed up with the Black Friday offer) that promotes using less plastic to protect the oceans and environment in general.
I went through the WA training and learned loads of great things along the way. I wrote a few articles and was really enjoying the whole process.
But then... in January, I started a new business that involved a huge workload on top of my 9-5 job. This meant that my little blog, that I had just started and had no audience, was the obvious candidate for things to drop to free up some time.
The plan has always been to come back to it when I have some more free time... which brings me to today.
Shocked
So, today I was doing some work for my main online business and was on my Google Analytics page and decided to have a quick look at the statistics for my blog.
I was shocked to find that I've had over 1.4k users in the last month and 3.8k unique visitors in the last 90 days. While the numbers alone aren't all that shocking, what I found later is...
I decided to investigate a little more and see where 'all' of this traffic was coming from.
After a little look around, I found that 90% of my traffic was coming 1 article, 'how much recycling actually gets recycled'. This article was actually written because of a comment left by one of our very own WA members on a previous article.
My article is actually being promoted as the snippet for it's keyword... it is also ranking on page 1 and is currently in the #2 spot.
What's even crazier, is that it's sitting above articles from How Stuff Works, The Guardian and The NY Times... I just need to beat National Geographic for top spot :D
It just goes to show that the WA system works. Even a tiny blog, with just 7 articles and no Domain Authrority, can compete with the big boys (for 1 keyword at least).
So, I have decided to carve out a bit of time each week to keep writing my blog and see if I can capitalise on the bit of love I'm getting from Google right now.
I will continue to follow the structure and the teachings of WA and hopefully I can write a few more articles that people like :)
