THE IMPORTANCE OF GOAL SETTING
Success at anything cannot be achieved unless it has been defined. In other words how can I get to someplace if I have no idea where I want to go. In life we often stumble upon things and become good at it. This isn't really success in the true sense of the definition. For success to be accomplished there must be some sense of "reaching a goal"; or reaching somewhere that I set out to reach, be it physically or otherwise. This is where Goal Setting comes in.
In my regular secular job, at the beginning of every year we go through a process we call goal setting for the year. Whenever these goals for the year are set it almost always seem as though it is something that is very difficult to achieve. As the year progress and we are being constantly reminded of our set goals, very rarely do we not reach our goals or come extremely close to them.
This principle has filtered through my personal life and what I want to share in this post is a little about Goal Setting.
a) Goals should never be such that it doesn't push us a bit harder than what we are used to or are comfortable doing. It must be realistic and achievable with a bit more effort than is usual for us. In other words we must push or work a bit harder to get to our goals.
b) It must be such that we are being reminded of it time and time again. A good idea might be to make it into a screen saver so that we see it every time we turn on your computer. It may be a sticky note that we have stuck to our computer or refrigerator or something of that nature.
c) We should not be discouraged by fails. By fails I mean if something is not going as planned do not look upon it as failure. We must realize that failure only comes about when we determine what is happening to be failure. Therefore failure only takes place when accept it as such. Fails should only be seen as difficulties along the way or bumps in the road. We should see it as gaining experience of what not to do. Success cannot truly be appreciated unless we have some "failures" along the way. Persevere until success has been accomplished.
Learning the intricacies of the internet will not happen overnight. It will take time to learn. Be encouraged and understand that success at it may just require a change of attitude, or being a bit more patient, maybe being a bit more realistic about our goals, and maybe persevering a bit more. How can one accomplish something when they don't know what it is they are trying to accomplish?
