Can't get a plugin resembling "Pretty Links" to work

So, when I initially went searching for a link cloaking plugin, I couldn't find "Pretty Links" as suggested. Instead I went with "WP Dynamic Links". It works fine EXCEPT when I attempt to cloak an Amazon link. Everytime I enter an Amazon URL it say's it's in the wrong format. I've tried editing it in several different ways, and it won't accept it. It works fine with every other link I've given it.

As I said, when I search for Pretty Links, the only thing that comes up with those two words in the title is "Pretty Link Lite". The plugin at the top of the page is "Pretty FILE Links". I got a warning that "link lite" had not been tested with my new version of WordPress. The last time the plugin was updated was 5 months ago. I installed it anyway...and when I tried to use it, the whole site froze, then after several minutes of waiting, it gave me an entire page of gobble-ty-gook error messages!

So...where are people getting "Pretty Links" from? And why doesn't Dynamic Links work with Amazon URL's???

Hi, I am having trouble adding pretty link lite plugin. I tried a couple of times and do not see it anyway. I had an option to extract all. Don't know what that means. Please help.

Sorry that's it taken me a week to respond here, but I'm not surprised as to your dilemma. I had to delete 'pretty link lite' after activating it. If I remember correctly, it caused problems with my Wordpress. I would suggest trying either WP Dynamic Links, or Simple Link Cloaker. However, if you're like me, and MOST of the links you're trying to cloak are from Amazon, you shouldn't be using either of these. Amazon insists that you use their OWN link shortening tool.

Hello. My suggestion that you ignore the matter of pretty link as it needs a plugin. This plugin could slow down your site. So, I recommend you only cloak your links with simple words. For example; your link is www.yourdomainname.com/homepage, you could select it and copy it. Then, from wordpress you select the symbol of linking and paste the previous link. Then, in the original text name this link as you like. You can name it my homepage for example. So, it appears in front of your visitors as " my homepage", while it is a link. I hope that this helps.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll think about it.

it does sound like it is conflicting with another plug in- I have been there before if not with this plugin, so follow Bazboy's advice..

Hi, I am using pretty link lite with WordPress 3.9 and it is working fine I would suggest installing pretty link lite and then de activate all the other plugins one at a time to see if there is any conflict going on

Barry

Yes that's a thought. Although I'm sure it's because of the WP version update.

Hi Ben,

I'm not sure why you having these issues, but to answer your question I got Pretty Links the usual way through the wordpress dashboard. It was Pretty LInk Lite. You have the option to upgrade to the pro version.

Thanks Steve. Ok...so you got the 'lite' version. I don't think I COULD upgrade to Pro, because the plugin just won't work! Period! How's it working for you?? Aren't you using the newest version of WP too??

It's working fine, I've had no problems at with it (so far anyway).
I'm on version 3.9 of wordpress, I've not upgraded to 3.9.1 yet.
The theme I use is called cleanr.

I'm only using the lite version as I see no point in upgrading at the moment.
