Can you clarify what you want the end result to be? Are you looking to transfer your domain from GoDaddy to WA amd cancel your hosting account at Hostgator?
If you are, you have a couple of options:
1) you can initiate a domain transfer but you will need to pay for the domain registration again and when it’s all said and done your domain will be hosted here at WA.
2) You can keep your domain at GoDaddy and simply point it to WA’s name servers.

In either case, if you have a web site or email addresses associated with the domain already, you’ll need to move it to WA or start anew, etc.

The second option sounds the best but what if Go Daddy has just the Hostgator DNS - would I be better off taking option 1. . -The end result is that I want the site hosted with WA. Thanks

You should be able to manage your DNS at GoDaddy. You’ll want to log into GoDaddy and change the name servers for the domain to
ns1.mywahosting.com
and
ns2.mywahosting.com

Once you’ve done that come here to WA and go to Websites>SiteDomains. Add the domain under Other Domains.
Now you can setup a website using that domain or move an existing site already on WA (i.e. your free siterubix.com one you created while following the training) by going to Websites>SiteManager and then clicking on the Move button next to the existing site. This will bring a pop-up where you’ll select To an Existing Domain, select your domain name from the pull-down menu and then click I’m Ready, Move My Site!
