Substantive Responses
I wanted to share some information as to what a Substantive and Non-Substantive response are when giving website comments.
Within the last couple of months I have noticed I have been getting a lot of Spam. I get spam responses that are in a foreign language that I cannot decipher. I also get spam that look like real people because there is an email address with a name but the response is really short. Some of these might have been WA members but I am not sure because the response is one sentence.
I realize I could seek to try and find the member on WA but you know and I know that professionally we should not have to do this. We should be able to trust a WA member that they would leave us a long enough and/or substantive enough response to know they are real and not spam.
Examples of Non-Substantive Response
Hi Rawl. Thank you for that interesting article.
Thanks for shedding light on this important information. I really enjoyed it.
I enjoyed reading your article. It had a lot of good information.
Always refreshing to hear a rational answer.
Great information. Your site is wonderful and very helpful. I really enjoyed reading and talking about it.
Some of the above responses could have been from WA members but were deleted because they were so short that I thought they were spam.
Examples of Substantive Responses
I’ve been working as a teacher for almost a decade, and have come across “that kid” so many times and your post really sums up a lot of the problems and issues. It’s sad that these kids usually get labelled as bad kids, and that’s just not true most of the time. Thanks a lot for all the information and recommendations, it’s gonna come in useful and I’m gonna be sure to share it.
Thanks for this very informative article. I have often thought that a sociopath and psychopath were the same thing, but now I know they are not. I feel lucky that I have not really come across many people like this and hope I never do! But, I would probably be living in a bubble if I don’t come across one sooner or later so it is good to have your wits about you so you know to steer clear of these kinds of people.
Help Each Other
When you go to a members site give them Substantive Responses as in the examples above and not the non-substantive responses examples. We are here to help ourselves and help each other if we so choose. Make the most out of it by providing responses of substance so that your comments do not get deleted to spam.

You are so right, Rawi, I always believe when you really want to help others, then make it so, do it all the way ... thank you!! :))
Thanks for making that note clear to us, you know some of us did not have any idea about writing a comment . You have made it clear as to how to make the comments, I wish you could also shed the light on the feedback too.
Thank you for sharing your words of wisdom! A substantive comment proves that you actually read the post.
Absolutely, Rawl - we should always give substantive responses! Those short sentences don't really say anything.
I didn't think WA members could put just one line - if ever I write less than 50 words it won't let me submit my comment or feedback
I try to put quality in my comments. I read the article carefully, make a pertinent comment, ask a question.
Too often in return I get what you describe: Great job! You really know your stuff! I can tell you're very passionate about this subject!
I can't use that 'atta boy' crap on my website. When I need a comment on a post I want something that is *specific* to the content of the post.
