Pros and Cons of social networks developing an online business
Recently I've bumped into a movie which is called "The Circle" and it made think of what I'm doing here on WA. It is about communication and how technology affects our lives: I've always had a lot of problems with social networks and being here is a concrete challenge to me.
Let's think about a few pros and cons of using social networks (in my case WA, Google Plus, Linked in and Pinterest) to develop an online business.
PROS
- An easy way to connect with people all around the world, who I couldn't even imagine to get in touch with;
- A chance to learn from others who are facing the same struggles as I am, in the community of WA;
- To access a huge amount of information related to online business and digital communication.
CONS
- Being constantly connected could be annoying (and scary in a certain way), especially when you are not used to it;
- You can decide what to share online, but it has to be a part of yourself and you have to be ready in case someone disrespectfully criticises you or your work;
- You have to adapt to what the society expects from you, in the sense that when you become part of the internet, you have to behave in a specific way, which sometimes is completely different from the real world.
This is just the opinion I decided to share with you: my considerations come from a lack experience in social networks in general and a sense of inadequacy I experience when I have to fit into this digital world.
Nonetheless, I'm thankful for the opportunity that WA gave me, 'cause I'm pretty sure that I would feel lost without such a guidance! In fact, a few months before starting my journey here, I bought some books for beginners in the programming branch (Java, C++ and so on), which is not exactly my field, as a linguist... This is why I chose to use a faster way to build a website, and when I began to work on it in WA, I discovered an entire world learning every day something new about business and communication.
I'm sure I'll not be misunderstood, as I sincerely shared my thoughts and doubts with you guys.
Yours,
Rahel

Thanks for sharing I am sure their are other people that have a lack of social media experience. And I will say I am no guru myself. I learn something new everyday. I like to set a timer for 30 minutes and engage with others on that social network. Just by jumping on engaging I learn an easier way to use the site or something new about it.
