The Best Laid Plans of Mice and Men!
Introduction
Good Afternoon to all you lovely people at the wonderful WA Family.
The title really does say it all, I will try to explain, when I went too bed last night I thought that I would have a really relaxed day today, I bought a gardening magazine when I was at the shop, thought if it is nice tomorrow, I will get my chair and sit on the botom patio whilstI have a coffee and read my magazine, wrong!
The weather was OK, but once I had done my morning tasks, breakfast, checked the plants, opened up the computer it had gone cold and very dull. So I had a coffee whilst I did a little research, my eyes hurt, so I sat in my chair, and woke up two hours later! Found that it had been raining as well!
My plans for lunch almost in tatters as well!! I had intended to treat myself to a glass of wine with lunch, that was also out of the window given the time, having a cuppa instead whilst my dinner cooks, have cheated and put it into the microwave, it was going in the oven, as I often have a complete ready meal on a Sunday to save me cooking a roast, which can last forever, OK it can be used to make other meals.
Back from my Cottage Pie and all its trimmings, followed by Fresh Strawberries and Tutti Frutti Ice Cream! Will have a coffee when I have finished this blog.
The Last Few Days
A different week, but most enjoyable, did my frezeer shopping on Wednesday, having defrosted my small freezer on Tuesday, this was a job that we used to do together, Yvonne sorted the food out and washed the trays, whilst I defrosted the machine, (I have a steam gun). Being on my own I put the food into the large freezer which was nearly empty, switched off the little freezer and went to bed. I got up very early next morning, wiped down the small freezer, swithced it back on, cleaned the trays, had breakfast, then returned the food to the little freezer.
Whilst I was at the freezer centre, just as I was about to pay, when Inoticed that they had Lamb Shanks at a really good price, but was not sure if I had any room, so left them there. As it turns out I could have got one in!!
On Thursday I took my daughter out for lunch, we went to a garden centre that she had not been to before, it was a lovely few hours. While we were having lunch I discussed her Mum's things, she said if you need space (which I do) put them on the spare bed, I laughed and said that is already full! However I now know that I can begin to sort things out without upsetting her. It is hard to believed that on the 1st August it was six months since she left us.
Done a little gardening, also began to look again at AI, the thought being to sort out a number of items to use as content, really must get a grip again!! Just get so darn tired.
The Next Few Days
I do have a Branch Meeting on Tuesday, we need to confirm the VJ Day service, had a set back, was told late Friday night that there is to be a National Two Minutes Silence at Noon on VJ Day, have now to push all the timings forward and notify the invited guests.
On Sunday I have been invited to the County Cricket Chairman's Annual Lunch, always a pleasent affair, usually one or two older players attend.
If possible I would like to have a really good go at AI, also sort some content out for the websites, but as usual we will see?
Do have some plans for the garden, again the weather will decide, but the rain has been most beneficial.
Be happy, healthy and wealthy.
Please do stay safe,
Take care,
God Bless.
Stuart

@PMindra
Hey VH,
I think I missed a week of blogs. We've ALL had those "best laid plans" days!!! While I was walking with a friend last week, I told her I wasn't sure I was safe to be around....I messed up everything I touched. Yesterday I spilled a cup of hot coffee on myself. Yes, I get burned but my clothes saved me from it being too bad but what a mess!!!!!! That was the start to MY day. So, yes we've all been there.
It's nice that you had lunch with your daughter. You probably needed that as much as she did. Six months seems like a long time yet it goes by in the blink of an eye and it's not really long enough to totally grieve. That will still take time.
I spent most of last week nursing my foot again. I'm trying to get used to dealing with this torn tendon and what I can and can not wear. My foot tells me when I over do and if I ignore (which is my norm), it gets worse then I'm down a week. One night it was so sore I couldn't even let the sheet touch it. That was a little scary.
It's disheartening because I have things that must be done and like you, I live alone. It's a struggle even cleaning the freezer as you know. I've lived alone for most of my life and I'm tired as well. However, we are both blessed because some simply CAN'T do things and we are up and about moving forward. So, I'm not complaining.
Love the photo by the way. I'm glad you're staying active.
Well, better get a couple bills paid so you have a great week!!!!!! ONE day at a time with flexibility built in.
Take care
Always
Your VW
Hi VW,
Did wonder if you were OK, so it is nice to have the week started with a message from you.
Regarding your foot, put a pillow or cushion either side, make a bridge with a third one, you sheet should rest on top, it is a bit fiddly but it should make it easier to sleep more comfortably.
It is strange I get tired for no reason some days, still at least we are fairly active, which is a blessing.
I will pass no comment on spilling the coffee,, as long as you are OK!
My daughter goes on holiday, I think next week, I will miss her as I really look forward to her coming each week.
I must admit that I am regretting agreeing to be the Branch President ofthe legion, I just cannot get on with the Chairman, he his Leader of the local County Council and acts like a God.
The photo was when we led the Parade at Ypres some years ago when I was on the Membership Council.
Do take care of yourself and stay safe.
Always,
Your VH
Yes, I was Ok aside from nursing my foot and trying to figure out how I'm going to deal with it in the long run. I'm used to walking a LOT. Your blog just never came up in my feed and every time I thought to go look for it, I got sidetracked.
I think you should do what you WANT to do......what brings you JOY and NOT stress. If the Branch President is stressing you out, can you quit? We are too old to do things on a regular basis that don't make us happy. We've paid our dues. Pray about it and see what you're told.
Well, I'm off to do errands right now so you have a great Monday.
Always
Your VW
Hi VW,
Just seen this before I go to bed, I can quit, but it is the Annual Election soon and people have asked me to stay in the hope that we can elect a new Chairman, we will jus see.
I will definitely stay until after VJ Day as I have designed and sorted the service out.
No the feeling regarding walking my Achilles plays up some times, I did this over sixty years ago, just put up with it!!
Time for bed,
Night, Night and God Bless.
As always,
Your VH
Definitely sounds like you have had another busy week Stuart!!!
Hopefully you have had time to fit in a bit of Test Match Cricket watching as well.....
It's nicely poised at the moment, but.... I back our lads to get over the line at about 45 minutes into tomorrow's morning session.... weather permitting of course!
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday evening my friend! :-))
Hi Jessie,
I have caught the highlights for the last two days, most enjoyable, some superb batting today!
Take care! :-))
Some superb batting indeed Stuart, but... some reckless play threw it away in the end!!!
I can't disagree with a 2-2 draw though, it sums up the series well!!
Only 3 and half months to get everyone fit again before the big one....
I can't wait!!!
Enjoy the rest of your week my dear friend and please take care as always ok ! :-)
I was offered a trip to OZ for the tests, but couls not justify the cost, would have been nice though. !:-)
I imagine the costs to be quite pricey Stuart and would love to be there myself for a couple of months!!!
Let's see how things go and I might even make it!!
Enjoy the rest of your week my dear friend! :-)

Hi Stuart,
Thank you for such a genuine and personal post—it was like catching up with an old friend over coffee. ☕ Your writing always paints such a clear picture, and it’s a beautiful reminder that life doesn’t always go to plan—but there’s still comfort, purpose, and joy in the small things.
I admire how you’re balancing everything, from family memories to gardening and tech projects like AI (I’m also diving into that more myself for my site: https://tigariviral.space). It’s inspiring to see how you keep moving forward with intention and care, even when the days take unexpected turns.
The freezer story made me smile—and I’m sorry you missed out on those lamb shanks! 😂 But more than anything, I loved how you spoke about your daughter and Yvonne. That moment about sorting things out without upsetting her was truly touching.
Wishing you all the best for your upcoming meetings, and a lovely time at the Chairman’s Lunch. And may the weather cooperate for both gardening and relaxing with that magazine eventually!
Take care, and keep sharing these life updates—they remind us to appreciate the journey, not just the outcome.
Warm regards,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,
Thank you for such a lovely moving and touching post, it made me feel quite emotional, so very many thanks.
I do try to be honest when I write as I feel that sometimes you can get carried away and not end up writing how you really feel, also about what you have done, or want to do.
Take care,
Stuart
