Introduction

Good Afternoon to all you lovely people at the Great WA Family, as always do so hope that you are all keeping both safe and well.

Thought that I would make a start on this weeks blog whilst the dinner is cooking, also whilst I am having a rare pint of Beer in the house, well it is Christmas.

I have had a few moments this week, which I did expect, especially just signing Dad or Granddad on the cards, but I will get there, I do realise that it will take time.

The Last Few Days

I have spent some time on sorting out my websites, well looking at a couple of them, as you will see I am starting to get somewhere.

One of my sites is on cooking, will explain shortly, I have used the wonderful new tool to head my recipes with, below is an example:

Braised Lamb Chops

OK it did not copy will sort before I finish this blog. Will try to sort for next week as it appears that other members are having the same problem.

I have had an interest in cooking for many years, since if I am honest my first wife left me, I had to be able to cook!

A number of years ago when I came home from work, Yvonne looked shattered, when I asked what was wrong the answer that I got was about you try looking after two very young grandsons and running the house. From then on I cooked the evening meal when I was able to, dependant on my shifts. And yes I enjoyed it, you I had cooked the Sunday Dinner for years. If I am honest often cooked after we married, getting tips from the Chefs in the Mess.

In addition to starting to work on the cooking website, I have also started on one of my Health sites, I do have so much material that I am now begining to sort out.

Must stop for a moment and check my Braised Loin of Pork Chops. Not so clever today, the chops are tender the gravy is any how!, stiil I cannot be perfect avery time that I cook.

The glazed honey veg look good, the mashed potatoe will be fine as i have cheated and bought some from the shop!!

The desert is Black Forest Gateaux!

Will stop for a while as I taste my efforts, not forgetting a glass or two of Malbec.

Quite pleasent, gravy was tasty but a little thin, the chops were so tender that they almost fell apart.

With retiring from driving my Great Grandson drove me to the football yesterday, I was pleased to see that he is developing into a very competent driver, I also like being driven around!! As yet he does not open the door for me!!

Due to the very heavy rain I have had to empty the plant trays a couple of times, over half an inch fell one night.

The Next Few Days

Christmas will no doubt stop a lot happening, but I would like at the very least to get my cooking site ready to start working. I did get asked if I was going to her sisters on Christmas Day, said that I had not been asked to be told well you should have been, she is expecting you, so I said sorry have my food in, I did explain that I preferred to stay at home this year, but the thought was nice. My daughter also asked if wanted any shopping, it is so nice when people care.

Could just take it easy for a few days but we will see.

Pleas do stay safe and take care, wishing you all:

A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS

God Bless.

Stuart

Hey VH

Glad to hear you're feeling Positive this week. You should know by now that people do care about you. I'm glad to hear people are stepping up to help you with transportation even if they don't open the doors. lol

I admit I was kind of jealous when I read you comment about your wife and you cooking dinner. I had 3 young ones all under 4 -- 2 were in cloth diapers and my ex never ONCE offered to even HELP with dinner much less cleaning or laundry. Guess that's one of the many reasons he became an ex huh? Your wife was a lucky woman!

I've finally completed putting everything away to make room for the kids to come and started cleaning and doing laundry today. Tomorrow I was asked to serve one of the night services at the church but I should have time to complete my cleaning. Wed and Thur I'll do the cookies and Fri the kids will come and I'll have a big meal. Whew. By New Years Eve, I'll crash!!!!!! We always do a walk on New Years Day to start the year on the right foot so to speak.

Well, you have a great rest of your week and a very Merry Christmas. Be gentle on yourself. This one will be the worst as it's the first one alone.

Always
Your VW

Hi VW,

Love getting a message from you just before I go to bed, it completes my day.

Regarding my Great Grandson forgot to mention that as he has not yet passed his test he has to have aqualified driver with him, but he did drive very well.

While I take your point regarding me helping my wife, before she passed I said we were a team and she agreed, to me that is what marrige is about!! It she not be one sided!!

You have certainly had a lot to do with your family arriving for the holidays, but you will love having them and it will do you good to see them for a few days.

Think the reason that I want to be alone, is because it is the first one, if I want to get morbid I can, if I want to reflect and remember I can.

Have a wonderful Christmas and New Year, I will be thinking of you and your family.

God Bless.

As always,
Your VH

Stuart, thank you for sharing such a heartfelt update-your reflection on cooking, family, and the quiet strength of everyday choices truly resonate. The way you’ve turned life’s shifts into creative momentum, especially through your cooking and health sites, is inspiring. Your honesty about gravy, the tender chops, and the joy of been driven by your great-grandson add a beautiful layer of realness a reader can follow.
