I am imagining a variety store with daily traffic and no sales. It is not difficult to use the same insight to understand digital marketing. If your site is crowded with loads of visitors daily who have no interest in your content, then there is no need to become overwhelmed with excitement. Useless traffic is really not what you need. In brick and mortar marketing, nobody pays mall rental for a bunch of shoppers to use as route to another store. Who stocks costly items just to invite a passing glance? Well, this and more I have realized about this business of traffic creation.

Here are some useful tips:

    1.Establish your target market – Your target audience represents people who you identify with your content.People who show no interest in your site or content are not a part of your target market. Some of them may have landed on your page accidentally. They may not return to your site, so be careful of false analysis. The point is when you are analyzing your traffic status, conversion, bounce rates etc., and don’t always assume all this traffic is a sign of site interest.

    2.Maximize the use of Communities/Forums – Identify where people who have an interest in your topic would gather. Ask yourself the question, “To what questions my content could be responding to?” I recently joined up with a blogging community in Google+ and am astonished at the reviews!

    3.Publish an E-Book – There are actually real opportunities for easily writing a book these days. There is so much free advice through Amazon Kindle Publishing. I see publishing as a useful technique to distinguish oneself as more than just a blogger. If you are sought after for your content in E-Books, then people will hunt for blogs daily.

    4.Follow up with the news – Don’t miss out on any information that relates to your blog that could be viral. I think whatever is shown on https://news.google.com that could be valuable to your target market should be closely monitored. This is like stocking your store with trendy items to ensure your customers are not lured elsewhere.

    5.Referrals – Ensure there are social media shortcuts at the bottom of your site, e.g. Facebook, Twitter, email, YouTube, G+ and others for constant site reference. Also don’t forget in whatever forum you choose to engage, particularly where people of your interests gather, do remember to circulate your website address.

    6.Visual Content – The use ofimages is powerful and very illustrative to viewers. It is no secret that visuals illuminate a text format in any social media engagement. Just look at Pintrest which is now ranked as one of the world’s largest online traffic driver!

    7.Use of Powerful Backlinks – A valuable page has tons of other pages linked to it so find ways to establish linkages for flow of traffic to your page. You can also interact with sites that offer a Forum Post as this is an opportunity to create backlinks. However, ensure these linkages are strategically connected to sites that have the type of traffic that you are targeting.
