(A Story of Mindset Training, Energy, and the Body Listening)

Hey there, WA family. It's beem awhile since I posted anything here. My business is thriving, and I published a book (Fractured To Freedom), which you can find on Amazon or other book sellers if you are inspired to do so.

Now it's time to get back to blogging, and I thought I'd begin here, where I created my first blog some years ago.

I've come to realize how vitally important a healthy mindset is to our overall health, well-being, and having a joy-filled life! Therefore, I thought I'd share some tidbits that I both practice and teach to my clients.

When I first began practicing Qigong, I thought I was just waving my arms slowly in the air, like a tree politely greeting the wind. Peaceful? Yes. Relaxing? Sure. But life-changing?

That part took me a while to understand.

The turning point came when I realized something simple and astonishing: the body listens to the mind — especially when the mind speaks in images.

You see, the brain does not draw a hard line between imagination and reality. When you vividly picture warmth spreading through your chest, light moving through your organs, or tension melting like ice in sunlight, the brain lights up as if something real is happening — because to the nervous system, it is.

And the nervous system is the great conductor of the body’s internal symphony.

The Brain That Learns From Imagination

Every time you visualize during Qigong, you’re doing more than daydreaming. You are gently teaching your brain a new way to respond to life.

When the mind holds an image of safety, light, or calm strength, stress circuits begin to quiet down. The body shifts out of fight-or-flight and into rest-and-repair. Breath deepens. Muscles soften. The heart rhythm steadies. Over time, these inner rehearsals build new neural pathways — like carving fresh trails through a forest that once only knew the path of tension and survival.

This is called neuroplasticity, but I like to think of it as the brain remembering how to feel at home in the body again.

Chemistry Follows Consciousness

Here’s where it gets even more fascinating.

Your thoughts are not just abstract clouds floating through the mind. They are biochemical instructions.

When you imagine cleansing light moving through you, the body may reduce stress hormones, ease inflammation, and relax tight muscles. Circulation improves. Breathing patterns change. Even immune signaling can shift. It’s as if the body says, “Oh, we’re safe now? Wonderful. Let’s begin repairing.”

The images we hold become messages — and the body is always reading them.

Where Attention Goes, Energy Flows

In Qigong, we say, “Yi leads Qi” — intention guides energy.

Modern science would phrase it differently, but it points to the same truth: focused attention changes how the brain fires, how muscles organize, how fascia releases, and how breath moves. Awareness is not passive. It is directive.

Place your attention in your hands, and warmth gathers.

Place your awareness in a tight area, and it begins to soften.

Picture light flowing through you, and posture shifts, breath deepens, and the nervous system follows.

Visualization becomes a steering wheel for your internal state.

The Field of Intention

Over the years, I’ve come to see visualization as the creation of a field of intention within the body.

Imagine your awareness forming a gentle, energetic atmosphere — like a climate within. As breath, blood, nerve impulses, and subtle life force move through that field, they begin to organize around the images you hold. Light invites clarity. Warmth invites relaxation. Strength invites resilience. Calm invites healing.

This is not fantasy. This is participation.

You are not pretending something is happening. You are guiding what is already happening every moment beneath conscious awareness.

From Fractured to Freedom

When we live in stress, old stories, or pain, the mind often replays images of struggle. The body listens — and stays braced.

Qigong visualization offers another option.

It allows us to rehearse wholeness.

To practice ease before it fully arrives.

To embody freedom before circumstances change.

And little by little, the body comes to believe the new story.

That is how mindset shifts.

That is how resilience grows.

That is how healing becomes a lived experience rather than a distant idea.

Visualization is not an escape.

It is a quiet conversation with the nervous system, a gentle re-education of the body, and a reminder that the mind is not just a thinker…

It is a sculptor of inner reality.

And when mind, breath, and movement align — that’s when Qigong stops being exercise…

…and becomes transformation.

Guided Qigong Visualization

“Entering the Field of Intention”

Take a slow breath in through the nose…

And exhale gently through the mouth.

Again… slow inhale…

And a long, easy exhale.

Feel the weight of your body being received by the Earth.

Nothing to hold up. Nothing to prove.

Just being here.

Step 1 — Arriving in the Body

Bring your awareness to your feet.

Imagine warm, soft light gathering there… like sunlight soaking into the soles.

With each exhale, feel any tension draining downward…

Like sand slipping through an hourglass…

Returning to the Earth to be recycled.

Your feet grow heavy… grounded… supported.

Now bring awareness to your belly.

As you breathe in, imagine the breath filling your lower abdomen like a gentle balloon.

As you exhale, feel the belly soften… the organs relax… the nervous system sigh.

Your body is beginning to understand:

It is safe to rest.

Step 2 — Creating the Field of Intention

Now imagine a soft light above your head.

Not harsh. Not blinding.

A calm, intelligent light… like the glow of early morning.

As you inhale, see this light slowly pouring down through the top of your head…

Moving into the brain… the face… the throat.

Where this light flows, space appears.

Thoughts slow down.

The jaw softens.

The tongue relaxes.

The light continues into the chest.

As it moves through the heart and lungs, imagine it gently washing away old emotional residue…

Like warm water rinsing dust from a window.

Breathing becomes easier.

The chest is more open.

The heart is more at ease.

As you exhale, feel the belly soften… the organs relax… the nervous system sigh.

Step 3 — Light Through the Body

Now the light continues downward into the belly…

Warming the organs… soothing the digestion… calming the deep nerves of the gut.

Then into the hips…the legs…the knees…the calves…

All the way to the feet.

Your whole body is now filled with this soft, intelligent light.

Imagine it's not just inside you —

But surrounding you… extending a few inches beyond the skin…

Like a gentle, glowing atmosphere.

This is your field of intention.

Warming the organs… soothing the digestion… calming the deep nerves of the gut.

A climate of calm. A space of healing. An environment of balance.

Step 4 — Letting the Body Respond

You don’t have to make anything happen.

Simply rest your awareness inside this field.

As you breathe, your body’s natural energies begin to move through this light…

And as they do, they organize around the message you’re giving them:

Safety.

Ease.

Healing.

Wholeness.

Muscles soften where they’ve been holding.

Breath deepens where it was shallow.

The mind quiets where it was busy.

You are not forcing change.

You are allowing the body to remember how to regulate itself.

Step 5 — Sealing the Practice

Now imagine the light gently condensing…

Becoming warm and comfortable inside your lower belly.

Like a small sun glowing behind your navel.

Rest your hands there if that feels right.

Take a slow breath in…

And a long breath out.

Feel your feet again.

Feel the room around you.

When you’re ready, gently open your eyes.

Carry this field of intention with you as you move back into your day.
