While over the years I, perhaps like you, have read and purchased many books and courses on how to become my best self. How to win friends and influence people, work a 4 hour week, become the richest man in babylon, learn from a rich and poor dad and unlock the secret, among other habits.
And I, like you probably, have noticed many over-lapping principles and approaches among the differing materials. Many central themes that interlock and create the frame work of the success principles. (Alright, that’s enough now
Which caused me to think – it’s like an art form or discipline, defined by a certain set of parameters which gives it it’s identity. And us, then, as practitioners of this art become the unique expressions within that frame work, like a garden bed of diverse and rampant flowers.
We, like artists, bring our own flavour to the table, born out of our unique life experiences and insights and the way we view the world. We each have value because we have something no one else has, and can reach people no one else can because of out individuality.
I was watching a talk by Tai Lopez recently and a thought crystallised. A theme relevant to each of us – that of doing something you love.
Nothing revolutionary in and of itself. But the important thing is defining the difference between it, and vision.
Vision as the destination. The future. But passion as the engine inside the bonnet. The here and now. The present you live in, from moment to moment.
Because if we are only ever physically in the present, and can only ever be – despite some living in the future and the past which we have relatively little control over – why not make THIS moment one filled with all the good feelings that passion engenders like joy, love, happiness, enthusiasm, motivation and so much more?
Aristotle said: ” Where the needs of the world and your talents cross, there lies your vocation.”

But there’s an excellent interview with Story Musgrave, the only astronaut to fly on all 5 Space Shuttles and holder of six degrees. He’s looking back on his extraordinary career and asked how he did it and goes an important step further:
” Life is an opportunity. So you look at yourself in the mirror today, what is my skill set. What is the intersection of the native talent that I came in to the world with that my parents gave me? What experience and education have I had and where’s my PASSION? (Capitals added.)
Number one where is my passion? The passion guarantees you’ll put the energy into what you gotta do to get there.”
And he then goes on to say: “But I guarantee you sir, if any entrepreneurial company is going to get out the door, I guarantee you every person in that company is rabid with passion! You don’t do entrepreneurial stuff and get out the door without it. ”
