It will never work.

Google has changed the internet world. If you ask someone a question, the first answer you will receive is "Have you Googled it?" It has become the source of educating the public on information.

Before, if you wanted to know something you would go to the library for a book on the topic. If you could not find the information, the next step is to find an expert on the subject. If all else failed, you looked on the internet and paid for a program.

The world has changed. My introduction to Google was a three-day conference on computers featuring cutting edge technology. I was attending a school to learn how to create a website. Instead, I spent months in the program learning the basics of how to work the computer.

The school was disappointing to me. However, they took the students to a computer conference that was way over my head. The program featured leaders of the industry, and the teachers of the school told me to ignore the open source platform.

"IT WILL NEVER WORK," one of the top teachers told our group. I thought it would be a fabulous idea to educate people around the globe. The conference featured programmers, analysts, and an array of computer tech that were brilliant to me. I sat in the audience among leaders in the industry taking notes to try to understand their language.

Anxiously I waited for the Red Hat group to appear on the stage. Little did I know that it was not the group of ladies that wore purple dresses and red hats. These women are known for their charitable contributions through fundraisers.

Instead, a young gentleman in a red hat and matching plaid pants stood before us. My teacher asked me, "how do you like that get up he is wearing?" I responded, "I love it." The fellow gave an informative presentation. The audience was impressed by his professionalism executing his speech. Hats off to him.

The computer world has changed so much from that time. Google has changed the world. Thanks!

Nice post Thanks,

Thanks! I thought I would share a bit of history with the WA community.

Good story PSchafer :) ...

Thanks, I glad you enjoyed it.

I am going out to buy a red hat now............it is obvious that this is the key to my success. I will let you know how this works out!

You will look sporty in a red hat! Please send a picture.

It has changed , we can almost say goodbye to libraries because we can research anything on Google. I did when I was taking online classes a couple years ago. I did all of my research to write my big papers on Google.

Since I am old, I still visit the local library. I boycotted the cable company and check out videos instead of paying to watch reruns of old shows.

The internet has blown up and has so much helpful information along with the world changing and advancing so much, this I agree helps everyone in the world to stay together and having the info at your finger tips is priceless ! Good blog!!

"It's a small world after all." Thanks!

You know, I used to have long wonderful conversations with my grandmother when she was alive. We would talk for hours about the innovation that she had seen during her life, and I can remember saying - "Gram, I will never see the kind of innovation and advancements in my life that you have seen in yours".

Here we are years later and I am seeing innovations and advancements that I never dreamt I would see.

Yes, the world is changing!

I noticed the difference watching a Columbo episode from the 1970s. The actor spent an hour running around looking for clues to solve a case. The show would have lasted 10 minutes if he had DNA technology and a fax machine.
Bless your Grams for sharing her knowledge with you. You are a lucky man.

It's changed all of our worlds I think :)

I agree with you Jude.

Do you remember the days of chalk boards, slates and lead pencils?

Yes! Cutting edge technology was using a #2 lead pencil and a notebook. Computers were introduced during my senior high school year. The waiting list was over a hundred people and the few students were learning punch code.

It sure has. I was in college when the first hand-held calculator came out on the market. It was a simple 10-key calculator with +-/* made by Texas Instruments. Retail price $200.00.
Up until then we used slide rulers to do calculations.

Amazing. What would your instructor say about elementary kids using them in the classroom now? We had a kid sent to detention for using them in algebra class.

I read a science fiction short story years and years ago about a boy being punished in school for doing multiplication tables in his head.

My opinion is that kids should not have computers, calculators or cell phones in school. As a taxpayer, I am not convinced the amount of money schools spends on computers or information technology has improved education to justify the cost.

I understand what you are saying Glen. It is easy to become dependent on the net instead of learning and recalling information. If a store's computer malfunctions, most clerks can not add or subtract without it.

Many of our schools have cut art, music and other activities from the budget to provide technology for the students. All of the programs are vital to the kids and there should be a balance.
