I think that the biggest myth that exists in internet marketing is that there is out there a push buttton, everything done for you system that will in a very short space of time bring in a huge amount of cash.

They prey on our desire for easy little or no work money. The person peddling the scheme will tell you that they have made huge bucks from it and that they want to share their success with you! They only want to charge you $47 for a system that is worth thousands!

I have bought into a number of these schemes and achieved close to zero results.

The reality is that building an online business is just like building an offline business. You need to put in time, effort and resource to get it off the ground. You will have setbacks, dissapointments, things will sometimes seem to be stacking against you. This is all part of the journey and must be expected and embraced.

As a member of Wealthy Affiliate you are being trained and shown techniques for building a successful online business. You are when you first join, laying your foundations for what could be a real skycraper of a business.

I think that it is very important for new members to recognise that you are learning to build an online business. This will take time. If you were considering going into a new profession it would take years of training and if you passed all the exams you would join the profession on the bottom rung. You would then have to work your way up to a senior position. You need to view your online business through similar eyes. It will be a medium to long term project.

It will and I know some of you will cringe at this, need some financial investment. This would be exactly the same if you wanted in the regular world to change careers/jobs. The training would cost both time and money. You could easily once trained and in your first job within the new career be earning less than you were in the previous job! You however hope that you will in time move up to a highly paid position that will make the study that you have done seem worthwhile.

I think that it is important to view what you are doing at Wealthy Affiliate with the same seriouness as you would a career move in the offline world. I think that if you do not do so that you will be hampering severely your chances of success. I would recommend that you become a premium member. Give yourself a clear message that you are building an online business and not just dreaming of easy online money. I would further suggest that you become an annual premium member.

As an annual member you are committing yourself to 12 months of activity and pursuit of your online goals. You will be able to keep going even when that unexpected bill comes in. You will have long term focus on your business. You will not be wondering whether you can afford another month's membership. Do I practice what I preach? Yes I became an annual member last December. I have built and developed my website. I have for the last five months in a row derived an income from the site. I feel that I have now laid the foundations and am now looking to enhance and improve my site. I am a babyboomer and do not consider myself to be techie. I have built my site from scratch using the training and guidance that I have received at Wealthy Affiliate.
