10? or 5? What is your preference for tips?
My niche is getting quite a few of these "top 5 tips" or "top 10 tips". I cannot work out which is the best, or, are they both as good?
Personally, if I was searching for something that meant a lot to me (like saving money on flights!!) I would prefer 10 tips, but a relative said that most people would never read through 5 tips, let alone 10.
Would you read through 10? I know I would, if they were well written, as I want to save money, or learn something new!
I am still trying to work out the magic formula, so have decided to do 1 x 10 top tips and 1 x 5 top tips and work out which gets the most visits after a few months.Recent Comments

If I have a choice between 10 and 5 (or any other odd numbered list), I tend to choose the latter. Even numbers, especially 10 and 20, somehow make me feel like the author struggled to flesh out the list, whereas odd numbers seem more 'legitimate' or 'real' to me.
For that reason, I tend to write '11 tips' instead of '10 tips'...
Aha, that is a good idea Kae - I think I am going to add another to make it 7! I had ended up splitting it into 2 fives, but it didn't feel as though there was enough for the reader to be compelled to stay! Thank you
