My niece has had some hefty challenges in her short life (she is 7 currently). Her muscles are not as strong as they should be, and from the day she was born she has been challenged by anything in life that involves using her muscles. From taking her first sustenance, to moving independently, to communicating with her world.
Frustration was, and to a point still is, her constant companion. She struggled to physically keep up with her peers, and communicating her needs and wants has always been challenging.
We have encouraged her to keep on trying, keep on giving things a go. And she is so stubborn, so determined. She brings such joy to me, to the family. :)
She has participated in activities designed to help her muscles strengthen physically - dance, horse riding, gymnastics.
Her learning, speech and communication also needed practice, and so we found a programme to help her build confidence in memory retention, speech, writing - all the things we take for granted - she is learning how to do...sometimes the challenges frustrate her - but the elation she shows when she achieves! Wow. We could learn from her.
My best lesson from watching her flourish and meet her challenges...
my mantra comes direct from her lessons...making a mistake is O.K... Just press continue [enter] ...(can you tell a lot of her learning involves work on the computer) ;)

is it muscle development, or a wasting disease
has she been taken to a specialist for a diagnosis?
your mantra is a good one and you have a great story to illustrate it
all the best,
Hi adaba063
It's muscular development :) and yes, we've been to various specialist, Drs, etc. the big thing now is to keep my niece using her muscles and strengthening everyday :)
You know some about these issues?
my home town is the home of a foundation called Jessie's Journey
it was founded due to a young boy who was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy which is a wasting disease
the foundation is dedicated to funding gene and cell research
the website is www.jessiesjourney.org
