Hi all in the WA community,

I am progressing through the training here at WA and I have reached lesson 10 of course 2. The end of course 2. So it is time for me to do a post! Kyle made me do it! LOL!

I joined Wealthy Affiliate for the first time in August 2015. I took a very long time to progress to about three quarters of the way through course 1 and then cancelled my membership.

Working as an excavator operator in construction and mining here in Australia I was up at 5 a.m. six days a week, on one site I was up at 3:30 a.m. for 6 months, and would get home anywhere from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the evening. At the end of that I had next to no time to work on WA and couldn't really focus on it properly. I am sure there would be more than a few people here that would be familiar with the same or a similar scenario. When I was working Fly In Fly Out (FIFO) I was away from home for one month at a time and then would be home for a week before returning for another one month stint.

Right now I am financially bereft but from 2010 to 2012, while working in the Fly In Fly Out mining industry, I made some really good income. There is a well known saying that money can't buy you happiness, but I can honestly tell you that when your bills are no longer a problem because there is plenty of money coming into your account, you are definitely more relaxed and at ease. You are able to have more fun, do more activities that you like. This lead me to a generally happier demeanour. I have always been a fairly happy, relaxed person any way, but when money is abundant in your life, it is the icing on the cake!

So why am I not doing the same job now? Well, one rainy Monday morning at work we were gathered together in a building because there was a cyclone approaching, that's a hurricane for anyone in the Northern Hemisphere. We could not go out to site because of the rain. A supervisor got our attention and started calling out names, of which mine was one, and asked us to move to another area. When we got there we were told that our jobs were finished and that we were to pack our rooms up for a flight back home early that afternoon. It is the nature of that industry. A lot of people had been let off during the preceding 6 to 9 months but it still had a little shock value to it! All of a sudden my REALLY well paying job was no longer!

The big mining boom we had was officially over. There has been a mass exodus of people from the state I live in because of that reason. So, out of necessity, I went and got a city job. The interesting part about that was that the pay for my job now is actually LESS than it was 15 years ago! So I worked in the city for a couple of years for recruitment companies. Working for recruitment companies offers a person little job security. They are basically a very impersonal meat grinder. The construction site I was working on was coming to an end for the dirt diggers like me. The writing was on the wall so to speak. So I applied for another mining job and, lo and behold, I was informed that I had got the job. I was to fly out that following Thursday. Excellent!!!

I handed in my notice at the current job and got prepared to fly out in a few days. The recruitment company called me and informed me that the fly out day had been delayed for a week to the following Thursday. Fair enough. That was fine. I would spend a bit more time at home and fly out next week. The recruitment company said they would call and give me flight details before then. Monday the following week came and went. No phone call about flight details. On Tuesday I called the person I had been dealing with. The secretary took a message and said she would get her to call me back. Tuesday came and went. No phone call. I called on Wednesday explaining the situation, that I needed my flight details because I was to fly out the next day. The secretary apologised because the girl I had been dealing with was off work ill and promised to get someone to call me back with the details.

Later that afternoon I got a call from another one of their consultants. He was very apologetic about the way I had been treated. He regretfully informed me that the mine I was to go and work at had closed down the previous Friday. Just like that, everyone up there, myself, and a handful of others who were to start our new jobs, were left stranded and jobless.

Now, I can get a position doing my job in construction in the city any time I like. I am very good at the job I have been doing for the past 17 years or so. But after these incidents, I had an EXTREMELY IMPORTANT PERSONAL REVELATION! And what was that revelation? That revelation was as follows:

A high paying job is excellent.

BUT HAVING CONTROL OF MY OWN DESTINY, SELF DETERMINATION, HAS BECOME FAR, FAR MORE IMPORTANT TO ME!

Having my destiny in the hands of other people is no longer an option for me.

I recently got an email about some Black Friday specials that Wealthy Affiliate were offering in November 2016. I paid for a year of Premium membership and here I am, this time determined and focused after my personal revelation. This time the pay will not be as good to start with but I do not care because this time I know I can continually build this business to new, higher levels as I progress onward.

I have been very lucky in my life to have been able to watch someone that I know personally, go from having virtually no money, to starting his own business, to making $30,000 a month in just a few short months. And that was all the way back in 1996. $30,000 then was a lot more than $30,000 now if you know what I'm saying. No he was not selling cocaine! He was selling an information book that he wrote. I was astounded! I am very lucky to KNOW that money can come quickly. To have seen it with my own eyes. Not many people get to see a situation like that. The vast majority of people see others around them struggle for lifetimes to get just a little bit. I have also been lucky to work with some very wealthy people and to be in the personal presence of some MEGA wealthy people during my life.

Because of this, I witnessed an interesting social anomaly. As a general rule, I found the very wealthy people have what I coined, "ars*hole traits," (that's as*hole for the Americans! LOL!) pretentious, condescending, patronising, and the MEGA wealthy people were surprisingly, as a general rule, very nice people! I hold that knowledge very close to my heart in the hope that I do not become an ars*hole but, rather, a very nice person in the future. The jury is still out on that one. Only time will tell! LOL!

However, their money is not my money. I have had a taste of having a decent amount of money and I liked it. A lot! Now I want it permanently, on my terms, without conditions. My dearly departed Grandfather was a pretty good businessman in his own right. I clearly remember him giving one of his nephews some advice during a car ride that I was present. There were the three of us in the car, myself still a teenager, sitting in the back, and I believe to this day that my Grandfather fully intended the advice to be overheard and taken in by me. At the end of his chat he said to his nephew, "You have to do something for yourself."

This time around my niche is organic and natural products. I believe a person can make money and have a clear conscience about it by doing actions that benefit, not hinder or harm, our fellow human beings and the planet. For me, introducing people to the benefits of organic and natural products is one small way to do that. There are other ways as well and I will explore them in the not-too-distant future.

Wow! I didn't even know I had that big a post in me! For those who have read all the way down here: YOU GUYS ARE NUTS! I wouldn't have read this much poppycock! LOL!

But honestly, for those that have, I would like to express my appreciation and gratitude for having done so.
