Trying to Do The Right Thing

Hi guys. This is my first blog post. I hope you enjoy reading it.

I joined WA about two months ago and have two sites in place.

One of them is a culinary blog for a friend of mine an it's in Portuguese. For this reason I am not SEOing too much on that one. It's more difficult to research keywords and all that. I'm focusing more on a local word of mouth thing.

The other one is a niche website (in english) reviewing some OtterBoxes phone cases. In about a month I managed to put my oldest post on the first page in Google (10th position). I'm pretty confident it will rank better with time as I add more posts (I have 6 right now) and refine my other SEO actions.

Now I want to get to the real subject of this post. I noticed that most people here in WA (experienced and newcomers alike) tend to go straight to WA's affiliate program. It is even higly recommended by Kyle and a lot of other users here. It is easier than having to research a niche, find keywords and all that. I get it. And WA is such a great community that a lot of people you send here will want to sign up and you will end up making some money.

The thing is I don't think it is fair to do it and that's why I haven't done it yet. I first want to make my site profitable and be sure that it is really possible to make money in this business. Only then it will feel right to tell my visitors that it does work, that they can believe.

Please don't take me wrong, I'm not saying that it's bad to do it. That's not my point. I'm just saying that I wouldn't feel good doing it before I really achieve at least some sort of success. If I go straight to recruit people to WA without having previously earned anything it will feel a bit like one of those dreadful pyramid schemes, when one only makes money by bringing new people to the scheme, and these will only make money bringing even more people and so on. In the end no one is really "bringing money into the group". They are rather taking it from the newcomers that will take from "newercomers" and so on. That can't work!

And again, no, I'm not saying WA is a pyramid scheme, not at all. I really like it here, I have learned tons of things and can only thank you guys for all the help I got here. And I'm also not discouraging any of you from doing it. If it seems like a good idea, go for it. I'm sure in a few weeks, maybe months, I will make my first dollar and then the second, third and so one. And then I will definitely join the affiliate program. This way I will feel I'm doing the right thing.

Thanks for reading and I hope none of you take what I said personally. It's just the way I feel and it's not directed to anybody in particular or to WA.

All the best!
