Getting up and running.

I was really excited about creating a web site and offering my expertise in the world of art and crafts. I feel that I have so much to share because I have been an artist all of my life.

My grandmother "discovered' me when I was about 8 years old. I used to spend my summers with her in Stamford CT. Somehow I started watching a TV show called "Draw With Me" starring Jon Gnagy. I would sit with a paper and pencil and try to follow whatever he was drawing. Grandma saw how interested I was so she bought me the "Draw With Me" starter set. Now I was in heaven. I had real art materials to use. My first "piece" was a drawing of Peter Pan. It came out so good and I was so proud of it. When I went home I showed my mother. She wouldn't believe that I had drawn it. She thought that I had traced it until my grandma told her that I really had drawn it.

From then on I have been involved in art all of my life. I've also created a lot of different craft projects as well. My first medium obviously was pencil. Later on I worked in charcoal. My next venture was pastel, which is a similar medium, only more colorful. Eventually I tried oil painting. Oh how Iove oil paint. I love the smell and the workability. At times I have also painted in acrylic if I needed a piece that would dry quickly.

When I owned my 2nd art supply store "The Magic Palette" I had several local artists who conducted classes for me. Dave Blanchette who is a very talented watercolor artist was one of my instructors. For some reason I felt intimidated by watercolor. But Dave persuaded me to sit in on the classes. I fell in love with yet another medium and have completed many watercolor paintings over the years. Thanks Dave.

Hey, I got off track here. See what happens when I start talking about art? I was talking about my website. I'm having trouble navigating it and making it work the way I want it to. I'm anxious to have it up and running because I would like to make some money doing this and because I would like to be n touch with other would be and experienced artists. Oh well, I'm sure that it will come together eventually. Till then............................

Hey girl good job, keep it up.

Wow, it's very eerie how I stumbled across your page and blog. My situation and how I got started in art is almost exactly word for word the same as you describe!!

I used to copy the cereal boxes on paper for my grandmother, and she was so impressed that she hung them on her wall in the kitchen. I will never forget it. People that came over to her house used to comment on them and she would tell me how much they loved them.
She couldn't believe that I drew them and also (like your grandmother) thought I traced them.

She still keeps one hanging in the kitchen. It's a froot loops box. I have done Capn' Crunch Crunch berries, Apple Jacks, Peanut Butter Crunch, Rice Krispies, and the Froot Loops one i mentioned. A couple of them I never gave her. I think I will now!

Sorry for rambling but I felt compelled to share that with you. I'm sure you will appreciate it in some regard.

Now like you, I do oil paint, some charcoal, pencil, and really would like to seriously try acrylic. I've dabbled in it, but it was when I was much younger and had no idea what I was doing :P

Anywho, great blog and hope to hear from you soon!
