WA through the era's

The new Weekly Challenge had me thinking.

Across history, the core idea behind Wealthy Affiliate (teaching people to build income through knowledge, networks, and communication) could adapt surprisingly well to different eras.

In Mosaic times, success would revolve around trade knowledge and oral teaching. Instead of websites, members might gather in marketplaces or caravans, sharing strategies on bartering goods, livestock management, and long-distance trade routes. Mentorship would be passed through storytelling and apprenticeships, with “affiliates” recommending trusted traders and earning social or material rewards.

During Roman times, the concept could expand through written communication and infrastructure. Affiliates might promote merchants across the empire using letters, public postings, or word-of-mouth in forums. With Rome’s roads and courier systems, information networks would flourish, and commissions could come in the form of coins or political favour.

In the medieval period, guilds would resemble affiliate communities. Knowledge-sharing would happen within crafts, blacksmiths, weavers, merchants, where reputation was everything. Referrals and endorsements would function like affiliate links, and success would depend on trust, skill, and local influence.

In Elizabethan times, the rise of printing would transform the model. Pamphlets and early advertising could spread recommendations for goods, services, or even plays. Affiliates might act as promoters of theatres, explorers’ ventures, or imported goods, earning a share through patronage or commissions.

During the Victorian era, industrialization and mass media would supercharge the idea. Newspapers, catalogues, and postal systems would allow affiliates to reach broader audiences. Entrepreneurs could recommend products nationally, tracking success through orders and correspondence.

By 2035, Wealthy Affiliate will likely rely on AI, immersive digital environments, and global connectivity. Individuals will build automated businesses, personalize recommendations in real time, and operate across virtual platforms. Yet the essence remains unchanged: connecting people with valuable products through trust, education, and evolving technology.

So there you have six different era’s were Wealthy Affiliate works.
