Great question. It can be a bit difficult. You can read other people's product reviews. I'd also advise thoroughly going through the product owners website, and being very knowledgeable (theory wise) of the item in question. You may find a question/answer section that will be very helpful to you on the "official website" too.
But - you may also be able to sign up and get a free trial of a product/service and test it out yourself.
