I don't remember this from the training but a couple of feedback tips have been to add one (so I'm sure I've overlooked it). I've clearly misunderstood what it is- thinking the

This should help too

As Loes said, personally I put in a featured image before publishing as your visitors will be visual learners so might click on your post just because they like your featured image without even seeing your content

It is the image which is displayed on the blogroll, I didn't add featured images on my first website, and last week I saw that the blogs in categories, without featured images gave an excerpt but were not clickable, they are on that theme only clickable by clicking on the featured image, So in a hurry I am now adding featured images to this website.

SZev is spot on. Put another way, it's the eye-candy image, often underneath a teaser paragraph for a given blog post.

It's a good idea to keep these classy and high-quality as it's often the first visual your user will see.

Thanks Mike. So would you recommend using the first image on the specific post or a new image?

YW!

Not necessarily the first image of your post. Opinions will vary on this one, but I like my blog image to be my best bit of eye-candy. Personally, I resize all of my 'featured images' to be the same dimensions (horizontal format), and I look for nice imagery.

I would liken this to a store-front, or first impression - you want to make it good and evocative.

If you visit our blog, you can see the types of images we use (this isn't a plug) but will give you some ideas...

http://www.bodycoachcanada.com

I hope this helps - hit me up any time.

That's really helpful. Love your website too, definitely helped taking a look so thanks for taking the time to reply!

A featured image is what shows up on your homepage blog roll or sidebar for a particular post. It's the main image you want associated with a post. Usually, people set the first image from their post as the featured image but it could really be any. Does that make sense?

Yes it does- thank you!
So it's easier than I thought then as I have images already at the beginning of all my pages and posts that I can use- I'll just need to set these as the featured images?

Yup!

So I've created a few pages and I'm starting to write posts that relate to these. Can I (or should I) list this on the drop down menu for the relevant page?

Concerned if

Absolutely yes. I do it all the time. Go to "menus" in the WP dashboard, click and drag the pages that you want moved so that they are slightly offset under the "parent" page that you want.

Ah yes thank you- I have done this with a couple of pages already- great stuff!

No need to add physically. You can link them through internal linking, this is more useful in many ways, reduces bounce rate. Do linking both ways.

But it is possible to do so, this is good side of posts, they can be at several places in the site in the same time.

You can do it both ways of course, physically and through links.

Internal linking? Is this something within the posts settings or on menu options?

I think you have missed lessons from Certification Courses.

Hi there,

is it on affiliate bootcamp or the getting started? could you tell me which lesson precisely?

Thanks a lot

I assume you are asking about internal links, you call it Getting Started so OK, this is Certification Courses for me. Cannot search it for you, type in the search bar above and you will have tons of it.

right, got it. Thx for replying

I do that on my main menu. Check out www.outdoorssportsmen.com and look at the top (main) Menu and see if this is what you are talking about. Hope this helps.

Yes that's what I meant- thank you! Really helpful to see your website!

No problem, anytime.

I generally use 3 - 4 images on each page, unless I'm adding an affiliate banner then I'll drop this to 2/3 images as think the page then looks a little overwhelmed otherwise.<

No rule. Think about users and this is all.

Yes, I try to look at it objectively and keep it simple but interesting and visually appealing.
I just wondered what others generally do.

If they are all relevant and break up blocks of text then that sounds good to me :)

Good stuff! Thank you :)

Has anyone had this and how did you respond? I've had a couple from the same person and have replied today saying it's not really within the 'pay it forward' way of WA.

You can either ignore the messages or respond with a link to the appropriate thread. I always send the link.

Is that the link Jude has added below?
Same persons messaged again claiming there's a lesson in which Kyle encourages it?!
Tempted to just ignore as suggested!

Type 'feedback' into the question box above to find the link for site feedback.

Brilliant, thank you Marion!

Hi Claire,

I get at least 5 a day in my PM box.

I typically ignore them and the ones who continue to ask, I simply say not at this time as I need to work on my own business.

I've had it happen on occasion, but there were no repeats......

Could be that some are a little shy of "going too public", the first time......

No it's not acceptable.

Elaboration? I've done it a few times but I didn't think it was against the rules.

This is an excerpt from Kyle's tutorial on Spam is a No No!:

No unsolicited messages to be sent through private messaging. This will lead to immediate removal of your ability to post anywhere within WA.

Full rules here:

Gee, you're right. I didn't know. But what exactly counts as unsolicited? Aren't all messages unsolicited? How can you ask a question without being unsolicited?

You ask a question by posting it from the grey box (at the top with the pen in it,) and use the proper comments and feedback section to request those on your site.

If someone replies to a comment on one of your posts and says 'feel free to PM me' then it's not unsolicited :)

Got it!

Well, I thought that at first (and wondered if they'd messaged the wrong person!) then I noticed the same person has put the exact same message on my own and a few other peoples profiles too.

Of there is people private messaging because they don't won't to deal with comment tool within the members area. I received private messages from people wanting me to comment or give feedback ..it doesn't bother me, Beside it make me think if they took the time to private message you. Then it something about you that they like ..I feel appreciate when that happen just my opinion .

I'd be flattered if someone asked me for feedback. They have before, actually, and I've asked a ton, specifically from really high rank users. Sometimes I get an answer, sometimes I don't.

You really don't HAVE to... but why not?
