Do any of you like to "Mentally Cruise?"

I do it all the time.

While writing I always come to that point where I have to ponder before writing the next segment. Pondering is something writers are usually awesome at. My pondering is often more of a mental cruising adventure that goes on far too long.

I have a rich inner life that is so much more exciting than the real one. The older I get the more exiting it is.

I had a 69 Corvette back in 1975.

It had the white rag top and the metallic blue finish with the 427 engine, and positracton 3.11 rear end. It was a dream come true for me, but all I could afford to do was ‘cruise’ in it. So I took it down the main streets of small town USA. When I didn’t have gas money on a weekend I went mental cruising in my journal.

Friday night in Concord California was the hot spot. A&W root-beer drive in restaurant was THE place to be Friday and Saturday nights out there. I still remember the first ticket I got in that car. I was “excessively accelerating” out of A&W’s parking lot to show off to the girls sitting on that old Buick.

I left two long black streaks on the pavement. But the girls were laughing while officer Jerk wrote the ticket. I obviously deserved it, but I thought it was cold to do it right there in front of the crowd at A&W. Live and learn. I was 18.

Don’t feel sorry for poor Paul. With that car there were many young ladies that wanted to ride. It was that time in America. Most of us only knew local news and our parents knew what was going on in the world. Now it is the opposite.

So I find myself living in that past when I mentally cruise now.

Writing an article about my writer’s blog I spend far too much time on those mental cruises. Yeah still in that old car I would love to have again. I paid $3,000 for it back then. Imagine that.

The poor sob who sold it to me had to or leave his wife. I say he made a mistake. A good life partner would have said: “Heck no, that car stays but give me the keys.” Right?

I don’t even want to know what that car would be worth today. I would cry I’m sure.

But hey, it is still a great ‘mental cruising’ car. Is it sad that I still have pictures of it?

Its a journey down memory lane

It sure is. Thanks

Thanks for sharing, Paul.

I think I sometimes mental cruise too much...

I worry about that myself, but I gave up trying to stop it years ago. It never worked anyway. Enjoy yourself.

Mental cruising is definitely a good way to think about the past even day dream about it. It brings back memories and that s a great thing that keeps us moving forward and also motivated. Great blog.

Hi Paul, yes I dream of the lovely vehicles I had in the past, now I have an 18 yr old Mitzabishi goes good, no need for the flashy cars I had in the past.
I feel for you though, whatever past thoughts you have need to be good.
I too love the beautiful lines of the past vehicles, most cars now are utilitarian, no chrome, no emblemishments nanna.
Keep dreaming.
Cheers Jae

I agree those older cars had more style and greater design.
That's so odd, I have an eighteen-year-old car myself.

I am certainly prone to mental cruising.

I pretty much live on "mental cruise"! The pictures in our minds are as good as the physical.

They are, they really are. Thanks.

No it's not sad to have pictures. I wish I had taken photos of all the different cars I have owned. Keep cruising. Michael.

Thanks, Michael.

I think its a wonderful experience to look back on.
Many would love to have such a memory :)
Just remember the good feelings when your mentally cruising.
No regrets!
She is a beauty!
Di :)

Thank you, Di. You're right, the memories are wonderful.

It's a little sad but so what. it's good to look to the future and make progress but a little trip into the past is a nice treat now and then.
Enjoy it but don't dwell on it too much.

Good thoughts, thank you.
