My First 113 Days on Wealthy Affiliate: Enthusiasm, Overwhelm, and Finding My Lane
When I first joined Wealthy Affiliate in December, I was filled with enthusiasm.
I had a clear goal in mind:
I wanted to build a website for my existing business.
I wasn’t coming in blindly. I already had a business and believed that building a website would strengthen its visibility and credibility. What I didn’t realize at the time was just how deep the world of online marketing really is.
Over the past 113 days, I’ve gone through three distinct phases:
- enthusiam and excitement;
- becoming overwhelm; and finally,
- gaining clarity.
This is a reflection of my journey.
December and January: The Enthusiasm Phase
In the first two months, everything felt exciting and full of possibility.
Each new lesson felt like opening a door into a world I hadn’t explored before. I was learning about:
- websites;
- online traffic;
- search engines;
- digital business models; and
- Artificial Intelligence (AI)
There was momentum. I was writing, learning, and engaging with the community regularly.
The training structure on Wealthy Affiliate made it easy to feel like progress was happening daily. Each completed lesson gave me the sense that I was getting closer to launching something meaningful.
At this stage, I didn’t feel overwhelmed—I felt energized.
February and March: The Reality Check
Then February came—and my writing and focus just seemed to change.
Not because I had lost interest.
Not because I had quit.
But because I suddenly recognized the enormity of the information I was trying to absorb.
It was as if a new door had opened.
I realized that building a website was not just about:
- writing pages
- or installing themes
It involved understanding:
- search engine optimization
- content strategy
- affiliate marketing
- user behavior (building relationships); and
- now increasingly, learning about artificial intelligence (AI) tools
That realization hit me all at once.
And for the first time, I felt overwhelmed.
Recognizing I Was Losing Perspective
My original goal was simple:
build a website for my existing business.
Somewhere along the way, I began trying to understand everything at once:
- blogging strategies;
- AI tools;
- social media marketing;
- affiliate platforms; and
- traffic generation methods
The information wasn’t the problem. The pace at which I was trying to consume it was.
I had reached a point where I was in danger of losing sight of why I joined in the first place.
That pause in February and March became necessary. It allowed me to step back and regain perspective.

What I Learned About the Online Marketing Environment
Even though February was slower in terms of publishing, it was not wasted time. I spent that period absorbing and reflecting on what I had learned so far.
Through the training on Wealthy Affiliate, I was exposed to a wide range of disciplines within online marketing:
- Search Engine Optimization (SEO) – understanding how websites get discovered
- Affiliate Marketing – learning how digital recommendations generate income
- Content Marketing – creating useful material that attracts readers
- Social Media Marketing – using platforms to build visibility and relationships
- Artificial Intelligence – how tools like ChatGPT are changing how content is created and researched
- Website Development – building and maintaining a functional site using WordPress
I was slowly coming to the understanding that building a website is not a single skill—it is a combination of many different disciplines all working together.
The Three Goats and Finding My Place
One article that helped me regain clarity was written by
Fleeky on the concept of the three goats.
The idea described three types of marketeers:
- beginners;
- intermediates; and
- veterans
Reading that article helped me recognize something important:
I am a beginner, a newbie.
And that is not a bad thing.
My mistake was trying to operate like an intermediate or veteran while still learning the basics. I was comparing my starting point to other people’s middle or advanced stages.
The article reminded me that every experienced marketeer was once where I am today—at the beginning, learning how to creep, the to walk before they could even run.
Learning to Stay in My Lane
This realization changed my approach.
Instead of trying to master everything at once, I began focusing on what beginners should be doing:
- learning fundamentals;
- building simple, clear content; and
- and developing consistency.
I stopped worrying about advanced tactics and started focusing on building a solid foundation.
This mindset shift reduced my stress and made the learning process enjoyable again.
My Website Is Still a Work in Progress
I haven’t fully completed the website I originally set out to build—and that is something I am now comfortable admitting.
It is still in development.
But unlike in December, I now understand better:
- what a functional website requires;
- how content needs to be structured; and
- how long-term traffic actually develops
Progress is slower than I expected, but it is also more realistic and more sustainable.
What New Members Should Pay Attention To
If you are just starting on Wealthy Affiliate, there are two areas you should focus on above all else:
1. Building Content
Your website cannot grow without content.
Search engines cannot rank empty pages.
Visitors cannot trust a site with nothing to read.
Content is the foundation of:
- traffic;
- authority; and
- monetization.
You don’t need to write perfectly—you just need to write consistently.
2. Building Relationships
One of the most powerful aspects of Wealthy Affiliate is its community.
Asking questions, reading other members’ posts, and sharing your own experiences helps you:
- learn faster;
- stay motivated; and
- avoid common mistakes.
Online business can feel isolating if you try to do everything alone. The community prevents that.
A Simple Guideline for Beginners Starting Today
If I could go back to my first day and give myself advice, it would be this:
Focus on these three things:
- Learn one concept at a time;
- Build content regularly; and
- Engage with people, not just platforms
You don’t need to understand every aspect of online marketing immediately. You only need to understand enough to take the next step.
Final Thoughts After 113 Days
My first 113 days on Wealthy Affiliate have not been a straight line of progress.
They have included:
- excitement;
- confusion;
- being overwhelmed; and finally
- gaining some measure of clarity
I joined to build a website for my business.
That goal hasn’t changed, it's better to say it has expanded.
What has changed is my understanding of the journey required to get there.
I am no longer trying to sprint through the process. I am learning to walk at a beginner’s pace—and that, ironically, is what is helping me move forward again. Recognizing that I'm running a marathon not a hundred meter dash.
For anyone just starting:
You don’t need to know everything.
You just need to keep going.
Just saying ^_^ Cheers
