Better than I was Yesterday
The Tortoise and the Hare
Slow and steady always wins the race, ... ask any tortoise!
Doing Time
My time here at Wealthy Affiliate has evolved into something that I would have never imagined when I joined this learning institute.
I was introduced to WA by an Ambassador, and didn't expect to stay here for very long. I get bored quickly, sometimes, and I expected this to be the case here as well, however, as I began to spend hours and days here, I realized that this was no "fly-by-night" dot.com millionaire, training school, that had a few "easy buttons" I could click before I headed for the beach.
Life is a b$$$h, ... ain't it.
It turns out that there really are no free lunches, ... and no "easy" buttons.
Actually, I wasn't that naive, and I wasn't looking for that type of training.
What I was looking for, was a legitimate training program, that wouldn't cost me an arm and a leg.
I had just about given up on the idea, ... but not quite.
You see, my parents didn't do a very good job of teaching me how to be a quitter!
Fortunately for me, I never got very good at quitting and since there were no "easy buttons" and no free lunches I would have to develop a strategy to survive, and grow, here, and make proper use of this opportunity.
So here's what I did.
I devised a Plan
Without a plan, I was the proverbial ship without a rudder.
How could I achieve anything, if I didn't didn't know what I wanted, or how to get there?
I Kept Sight of my Goal
I set daily goals that added up to weekly goals, and eventually to monthly and yearly achievements.
This focused effort began to produce results that I could see.
I Learned as much as I could
Knowledge is what separates the ones at the top, from the ones on the bottom.
The simple fact is, that everyone that is above me in any metric that I choose, simply has more knowledge of the subject, than I do.
I got my head in the books.
I read, I followed the lessons, I attended the webinars, and I got a mentor.
Discipline
This is a cold, and heartless character, ... that has no "feelings".
Distractions
A popular exercise to WASTE my days.
Easy-peasy! ... no effort required.
I ran from it, as if it were the PLAGUE!
I had to manage my Time
I have a list of things to do.
I noticed early, that all achievers have an agenda or day-planner that they use to write down what they will be working on in a specific time-window.
M.I.T.
No, ... this is not the Massachusetts Institute of Technology!
It is the Most Important Task.
I did my hardest task first, when I was fresh and more energized.
After I completed my M I T, my day got easier, ... easier until the next hardest task came along.
I needed a Mentor
A mentor to be my personal trainer, my coach, the person that would monitor my progress.
They can be found in books, biographies, or audio-tapes, but it's always best to have a real live-in-the-flesh mentor.
Not that hard to find if you look around. Every successful business man, every successful athlete will fill that role.
Don't expect Bill Gates or Warren Buffet to show up at your house in the morning.
Remember, everyone starts at the bottom.
Better than I was Yesterday
This slow steady progress is a sure road to success.
I did not invent any of these strategies, they are the product of others, that came before me.
I use them because they work for me. They work for everyone. They are universal laws, like the laws of Nature or the laws of Physics.
I will finish by saying that after all this effort, I am still not a Dot.Com millionaire, nor have I been able to find that "easy button", but I can say unequivocally, that I am better than I was yesterday.

This is the most interesting post that I have seen all day. Most all of us have told why we like WA so much, but you come along and say it though your own character that portrays a most admiral expression of words and personality.
So I guess you didn't get board because you are still here since 2015 and I don't think you would be here if you didn't have success at doing the work.
I also wrote about the Tortoise and the Hare
I don't remember following you but I am glad I did.
always a better way
Linda
Thanks for the kind words, Linda.
This is an excellent place to learn and I am fortunate to have found it.
The numbers agree with me as well.
Make this a great year!
Nice post! You sound like you are well on your way to success! Keep up the good work and it will all come together.
Paul,
The minute you signed up you became better than the day
before, finding that you can still learn and learn, if I learn
but one small new thing each day then I feel that all of this
is moving me forward better that I was the day before!
In doing this no we will not become millionaires overnight but
we will have the opportunity to succeed Why because we do
not quit :)
Thank you for sharing,
Susan

Thank you, Paul! So much to learn from you. Yes, we know the story of the tortoise and hare since young but always tend to be impatient. All things take time and it's not a matter how fast but how steady. Thank you for sharing MIT :o)
Thank you, Terand for reading my post.
The Most Important Task is a real winner. It sets the tone for YOUR day, and from there, things get easier, ... by definition.
Yes, Paul! Thank you for your advice too! :o)
