What Cooking can Teach us About Affiliate Marketing

Despite having an outpatient surgical procedure yesterday I woke up at 4AM ready to take on the world. My boyfriend and I got our bulldog ready for her predawn walk. I shuddered as the crisp fall Arizona air sliced through my jacket I knew today was going to be perfect to make chili.

I de-thawed, seasoned and browned both the chili meat and bacon and went on adding a few other things such as vegetables and onions to my trusty crock pot. Everything was moving along nicely until I accidentally dumped a quarter cup of onion salt into my crock pot.

Tempted to throw in the towel and toss out my chili, I decided to see how I could fix my over seasoned mess. It only took a few key strokes to discover I had several options. I could add more ingredients such as potatoes, sugar or even sour cream. I opted for adding large chunks of potatoes I can later take out along with adding some brown sugar. Brown sugar pairs beautifully with bacon right?

Now my once ruined chili has a depth and richness that is absolutely yummy and what was once a disaster is starting to taste like a masterpiece.

Then it occurred to me that this also applies to affiliate marketing. How many times have you sought out to create something amazing, only to find you made a huge mistake? Perhaps you feel there is no recovering from it and would be best to throw it all way and give up.

We have all been there however I urge you never give up. There are resources and people who can help. Much like in my cooking story I turned to Google and when it comes to affiliate marketing we have wealthy affiliate.

Speaking of depth and richness wealthy affiliate has those bases covered with an utter abundance of people and resources. Designed to help those who really want to help themselves excel in affiliate marketing.

Has something like this happened to you? How did you recover and what advice do you have for those who are currently in this situation?

I purchased a domain with a wrong spelling, giving the purpose of the site completely different concept. I went with it, having to do a lot more research.

Great analogy. I like to cook and can resonate with this very well. We all start off with recipe and ingredients and so on... However, when the cooking starts and you miss a step or lack an ingredient, you have no choice but to improvise.

Happens many times... cooking and affiliate marketing too.

Improvised to get the website up and then come back later to improve it.

Thank you, I love to cook so the analogy came easy. Great point on it forces one to improve!

Great analogy, Pamela--sometimes our 'mistakes' can be our GREATEST successes! That onion powder sure sounds yummy!

I find whenever I make a mistake with my website it is because I took a shortcut. I then go back to the training to find the right way to correct my mistake.

Jerry,
I can relate to that as shortcuts can be tempting! I am so thankful for the training here as it reminds me that there are no shortcuts just hard work.
