Oh BOY! I messed up! I need some help on my website!

Hey friends,

I thought I was doing great and after reading a few lessons on Menus and Categories, I went in and made some updates to my website in Word Press.

I was trying to set up some drop down menus from my top menu on http://basichomemakingskills.com .

If you go in and look at it I think you will see something totally different from what I intend for it to appear. My home page is intended to be an introduction to why I chose "Basic Homemaking Skills" as my topic. That is what I had there originally.

When I go into edit on the page in Word Press, it shows me the photo and the text that I originally wrote and posted.

However, when I click on "View Page" it shows me the "Food" page and food photos from my food page.

When I go outside and pull it up in Google, it shows the food page, and then if you scroll down, it shows my child care page, and then my privacy policy page, then my "About Paula" and then my Introductory page, all each with the Comment opportunity after each one.

I tried a few times to figure out how to backup my files but have not completed that since I have not gotten that far in my BootCamp training.

Can anyone help me with this? Or do I need to ask Support?

Tearful in Texas!

Are you having a static home page so that it just opens at it and the same material will be on it,or are you wishing to have a roll down blog where you will have various content and it is scrollable. You need to go to the menu section and then to the customize button, there will be a column down the lh side,go to the button near the button and choose static or the other.
You also must make sure under the menu section that you have added your page to the ladder on the rh side.

I am new at this, but my guess would be start with support and go from there.

Considering your circumstances you might start with support and then study the tutorials for drop down menus.

And just remember Paula that WA does a daily back-up of your site. So they can always give you back what you started with... God Bless!

Don't fret, Paula. I screwed up on that one too. Eventually figured it out. I make mistakes on mine all the time. They can be fixed.

Hey Paula I'm sure someone will help you sort it out. I took a look but could not come up with an answer.

Paula, can you take a screenshots of

1) your settings in Appearance> Customize
2) the post in Edit mode

and attach them in your reply here? That would help

John

Thank you so much for that suggestion! When I started to go in and get a snapshot I quickly tried resetting the Appearance - Customize - Static Front Page and it was set to "A static page". When I changed it to "Your latest posts" it all came back into place! Thank you Thank you, Thank you!

Hi Paula
The amount of times I messed up on my website was a great learning curve - Marion did a brilliant tutorial on working on a dummy website so to speak and then copy it to your own website see link below -in fact send her message she will reply

Hi Paula.

If you go to Appearance -> Customize - in the Static Front page section on the left, do you have it set to Your latest posts or Static Page?

I'm thinking you probably have it set to latest posts - and your privacy policy and other pages have been added as posts (which isn't a problem).

If you choose static page on the options - you can then select a page you want to show as your "home" page.

Does that help at all? Or am I missing what the problem is?

All the best, Mark

Mark,
No, it is set to static and Introduction to Basic Homemaking Skills.
Weird huh?
Paula

Yeah - are each of the separate topics different pages/posts?

Have you tried previewing another theme to see if it's a problem with that?

All the best, Mark

Mark,
This investigation is on the right track. Thank you! When I started to go in and check the Appearance - Customize - Static Front Page and it was set to "A static page", I changed it to "Your latest posts" and 'voila!' it all came back into place! Thank you Thank you, Thank you!

You're welcome - glad you're making progress.

Cheers, Mark
