Vanishing Jobs

Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg were both independently interviewed on a major news channel recently. They were both discussing the possibility of a guaranteed annual income system in the US where everyone is guaranteed a certain annual income.

I won't go into the question of whether this would be a fair arrangement or not, but suffice to say that the issue was being discussed due to the number of jobs that will be disappearing over the next few years. Both Musk and Zuckerberg felt that up to 40% of jobs will be lost between now and 2030.

These jobs will disappear due to automation and technology which will lead to large numbers of unemployed individuals.

According to Forbes magazine, declining job numbers will be especially severe in the ranching/agriculture industry, post office employees such as mail carriers and clerks along with postmasters, fast food cooks, data entry, electrical workers, computer operators, office machine operators, florists, typists, word processors, and door to door salesmen.

Even jobs that normally appear secure, in spite of advances in technology, like draftsmen, lawyers, and doctors are at risk. Already, people are going to the internet to answer their legal and medical questions instead of seeking advice from a lawyer or physician. In addition, advances in artificial intelligence will decrease the need for some of these professionals.

This upcoming upheaval in the job market reaffirms my decision to enter the internet enterprise market now instead of later. In my opinion, entering the internet enterprise arena will be more difficult when the job disruption occurs as many individuals will probably turn to the internet as a source of income at that point.

So I applaud all of you for pursuing an internet career at this time.
