We have been programmed to think that failure is bad, but failure is the best thing that can happen, each time we fail we learn, it is the biggest teacher hands down. The programming to believe failure is bad can stem as far back as school. We are under so much pressure to get the grades right the first time, for example in an exam or doing coursework. If we get the answers wrong then there is no going back that’s it and you’ll be lucky to get a resit depending on excruciating circumstances. The grades you get will take you to your next year of education whether you like it or not and if you resit without any excruciating circumstances its likely your work would be capped limiting your potential of what you could of got if you failed over and over again learning until you got the perfect mark. The same applies to the business world, we have to fail multiple times before we achieve greatness.

Here are some amazing facts from the greats on why failure is going to be your new best friend.

Sigmund Freud was booed from the podium when he first presented his ideas to the scientific community of Europe. He returned to his office and kept on writing.

Thomas Edison‘s teachers said he was “too stupid to learn anything.” He was fired from his first two jobs for being “non-productive.” As an inventor, Edison made 1,000 unsuccessful attempts at inventing the light bulb. When a reporter asked, “How did it feel to fail 1,000 times?” Edison replied, “I didn’t fail 1,000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 1,000 steps.”

Winston Churchill repeated a grade during elementary school and, when he entered Harrow, was placed in the lowest division of the lowest class. Later, he twice failed the entrance exam to the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst. He was defeated in his first effort to serve in Parliament. He became Prime Minister at the age of 62. He later wrote, “Never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never – in nothing, great or small, large or petty – never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense. Never, Never, Never, Never give up.”

“I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career.
I’ve lost almost 300 games
26 times I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot … and missed.
I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. That is why I succeed.”
~ Michael Jordan

It’s important that we embrace every failure we have ever had in our life’s and every failure we will encounter and use that as fuel to our vehicle on our journey to success.

You win some you learn some.

always make the best out of the worst incident, is m motto - I like your thinking.

It's really the only way to succeed or know what success is. There is no success without failure. Nice blog Oscar!! Keep on producing.

great post,

the assumption is that everyone will learn from there mistakes/failings, unfortunately that is not the case

most people tend to use a failure as an excuse to give up -- now it may not be the first failure, it may be a 2nd or 3rd or more failures, but somewhere the "failure" succeeds in defeating the person

we can all learn from our mistakes/failures -- not everybody does

that is why those who do stand out as they do!

all the best,
