A moment to relax and look forward
Ok...so I am here for how long? 2 weeks? 3 weeks? let me check..A little more than 3 week. Wow, the time passes fast when you enjoy it! A month ago I barely knew anything about this world of online businesses and now I have my own website: youmustard.com (come on, check it up!). Not a business yet, but I am sure it will come soon.
I learned a lot. First of all the technicalities of building your own website including registering a domain and working with WordPress.
I also learned how to choose my niche (and I must tell you I already have in mind a few more ideas I would like to develop into websites) where the leading advise I got here from the community is that any niche I choose will be good and that I should choose a niche that is within my are of interest. I chose to begin with Mustard because I love Mustard and I actually collect Mustard (and eat my collection). So I enjoy every new post I am writing. If that is going to be my job to write about things I love then YAY!!
And of course how to write content that will rank you high in Google and bring traffic to your website, with the use of keywords. I must say that I am not yet an expert with that. But I am much more of an expert that I were 2 weeks ago. That's a start isn't it?
I must say that I am not satisfied with the look and feel of my site yet. It took me some time to get set with a theme. I chose one initially and changed it multiple times until I found the current one which I am using now, and I am quite pleased with. Yet I need to find a better heading image (replaced a few until now) and work on the color scheme (that theme is quite flexible allowing you to define any color scheme you want). I am not a user experience or a design expert, and I find this part of the job very frustrating. I look at some of your websites here and I am really impressed with the design but I can't get to design myself something that I would make me say wow. Maybe sometime along the way I will use some professional help with it.
I also have difficulties to decide how to treat "recipes" and "product reviews" in my website. Both will be probably the most common postings to my website, so should I treat them as blog posts or individual pages (as they are now)?
I would really like to end up my 3 first months with a site I can be proud of in means of both design and content. And I hope to see some traffic to that site by then.
After that been accomplished I would focus on starting to get some revenues. I hope that by the end of the first 6 months I will make my first income.
I must say that through this whole short period I have enjoyed being part of this community. I got encouraged from your postings, I learned from your examples and I asked questions which got immediate replies. I hope to take a more active part in the community and help others at this promising path to success.
