A Week Without WA
I just got back from managing a Youth Camp of energetic young people, and therefore was away from my WA family for a week. Even though I could have logged in during breaks I decided to set an example by staying offline during the camp, something we encourage the young people to do as well. Of course, there were those who just couldn't put down the phone when they had nothing to do.
I missed the conversations, blogs and the Jay's video class but had enough work on my hands to occupy my time. So, I got home and found 150 new messages, including new follows, SiteComments and new Google+ members who added me, to respond to. Well, my summer vacation begins today and my plans are that over the next 4 weeks quite a bit of my time will be dedicated to the Certificate Course. I am at Level 4, Lesson 2 and I am going push hard at completing as many of the lessons as possible before it is back to work in September.
So here goes to a Summer with WA.

Welcome back Oral and I think it's awesome what you do to help the youth. Must be very rewarding:)
Thanks Jazmin. Yes it is rewarding especially when you sit alone with them, one-on-one, and listen to their concerns, and you are able to share something with them that they find helpful.
Isn't it a shame that people can't find things to do other than peer at their phones. We always found things to do without devices.
So true. And I decided to take on the challenge and guess what? It wasn't hard to do. It is all about discipline. When we were on breaks between sessions, it gave me more time to interact with some of the campers one-on-one, and that was when I get to know them better. So much would have been lost if I had my eyes glued to screen all the time. There is a time and place for everything and spending time with people has its place.
Yes Liz, it was wonderful. I am always happy to work with young people. You get the opportunity to listen to them in a setting away from home and share with them ideas on how they can deal with their challenges. Being able to impact their lives brings me fulfillment.
