To Share or Not to Share... That is the Question
Just from observation...
I've noticed that a large percentage of long-standing and higher ranking members do not list their websites on their profiles. I would be interested in knowing why that is. Personally, I would like to see how they are progressing with their own sites and what their sites look like so that I might model myself after them, or at least see what's working for them (or not working).
Obviously, if they've been here for a while, they must be doing something right. And the community is all about sharing our experiences and helping each other.
It also seems feasible that many of the community members here might benefit from the services or products that they are promoting on their sites, so why not take advantage of that aspect of website sharing as well?
I realize that we all need to protect our website information from theft or exploitation, so maybe that's too much sharing to ask for.
What are your thoughts?

Hello :) I had not even noticed this but now it's been brought to my attention, I'll make a note of checking 'senior' members profiles to see if they have shared any websites!

Hahaha... Forgot I even wrote this blog post. Was having one of those wild hair days. I was hoping someone might open up and share. My network is not terribly large, so I don't reach a lot of WA'ers. I checked out your d-papa website. Very well laid out and professionally stated information.
I think that some folks here are more concerned about getting WA ambassadorship than working and making a successful website. I have no right to say though... I'm still building up my site myself and have not listed any of the sites I'm working at on my profile either.

no your right. Sometimes people just comment for the sakes of it, so they can get ranked. I will "like" their comment if its useful and not because they just decided to drop a line ! :p

I have noticed this too and agree we'd all benefit from seeing their sites. I think this is done so people don't take their niche ideas.

That is a possibility, which I can't blame them for. Although somehow, it seems it should be a pre-requisite to becoming a member in high standing to at least share one website on their profile, since we all look up to and learn from those who have established themselves as authorities here at WA.

I agree that (a) we could all benefit from seeing the websites of the more experienced members and (b) we all may have something that can be of interest to others. So I'm all for sharing. I believe my personal profile lists my websites.

Since my initial listing of this post, member rankings have changed drastically.
I am glad to say that nearly all of the top 25 ambassadors have at least 1 website on their profiles. It seems that some of the ones that don't are long standing members that have been here over 2 years and beyond. Interestingly, most of the ambassadors on this list of 25 members have been here for less than one year, so... it's fairly easy to rank.
My personal graphic design site is not listed for various reasons. If you would like to see it, let me know. I have also built, or am still building 2 sites for other people. I have learned a lot here that has helped me to get these sites up and running for my clients. I do have permission to list one of the sites on my profile when it is complete, which I will do promptly when it is finished.
