Can 2 sites be built exactly the same with 2 different domains, ex: jerseys.com & jerseys.net? Does this affect index, rankings, or credibility from Google's perspective?</
I agree with the comment below, this typically isn't a good idea when starting out. The problem is you are going to split your efforts in half and instead of creating one GREAT website and establishing a lot of authority, you may wind up with 2 mediocre websites.
Start with ONE website, work to make that great, and then down the road if you feel it would make sense to diversify, then you could do that. But this decision will be way down the road.
So can I just shut one site down and use my content in the other site, or is that too late to do?
I see some replies mention forwarding, but I already installed the site, I haven't added any information yet, but I do desire to build the .com site instead of the .net site? What say you?
Hi OJordan,
It will hurt your rankings in SERP for duplicate content? Anyway, why would you want to do that? Maybe your idea was to own both version of the domain? If so, why not build out your content on your .com version while just hold on to the .net domain, or simply do domain forwarding.
I hope that helps.
Right, I do want to build up the .com domain. I built the .net domain and stumbled on a better avg, traffic, QSR with a different keyword
I think I see what your saying about the forwarding option? So I can just move the .net site to the .com site, correct?
No. You're not moving anything! What you will want to do is "Redirect Your Domain" meaning every time someone visits your .net version they will automatically be landing on your .com site.
To do so,
1). Go to your "Domain Dashboard": https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/websites/domains
2). Locate your .net version, and do the following:
- See attachment for detail -
I hope that helps.
That's what I thought, so the best thing to do is shut down the one site and copy and paste to the other then, can I do that?
Hey Orpheus,
If you are simply wanting to move all your content from one website to a brand new domain, what I did was use the backup plugin: Full Backup With a Plugin and it magically changed all of the internal links to the new domain name.
However, if your new domain has content in it already then you can Export from the old and Import to the new.

Simply highlight the YouTube link, right mouse click and choose to open link in either a tab or a new window.
Hope this helps you.
Thank you! I haven't added content to new site. But is the MOVE button an option, or is that something else?
If you have nothing installed on the new site then I recommend you use the backup plugin. That's what I did when I moved one website to a new domain name. Saved me HOURS of work.
However, after reading that you were anticipating creating 2 exact duplicate websites using different domain names... that is a no-no and I explained that already here: I have 2 questions concerning creating exact twin sites under two different domains, can this be don
Zed covered it, it's not a wise move, simply pick 1 domian and build that one up.
If you own the the other domain you can simply forward that domain to the domain you're using.
Hi Jordan,
It's not a good idea ...
The uniqueness of your content is an important ranking factor. Basically, you are talking about "duplicate content" and "self induced plagiarism"

I have 2 questions concerning creating exact twin sites under two different domains, can this be don
Ok, so after some thinking, I decided to create another domain (an available .com) for the same niche, so 2 questions for you Kyle. 1- Can I build both sites with the same Nich
You can create as many sites as you want for the same niche- but you are going to face one major problem. How much content can you write on the same niche to get both sites ranked and running?
There will be a point where you will get the writer's block and not know what to write without rambling. Would you rather have 1 site with a lot of good written content, or two sites with average content?
If you feel you are capable of writing engaging, relevant content on both than go for it! If you aren't, then that will be a risk you face.
Hey Orpheus,
Sounds like you want a website mirrored: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mirror_website which are unnecessary for affiliate websites... in fact you might even find one of the sites being penalized for duplicate content.
Hope you find this helpful.
