My first website

Finding a niche wasn't so much of a challenge as I had thought it would be. I spent most of the evening last night pondering what would be something I would be passionate enough about, that could potentially impact my life and that I don't necessarily need to be an expert in. After careful consideration I've decided to look internally at where I am in life and use that for inspiration.

Here is a little bit of background into my idea. My wife and I both suffer from depression and anxiety disorders, as well I also suffer from PTSD from pieces of my former 6 years of military experience in the Canadian Forces and even my childhood. We have a wonderful dog who has become an important piece of our family. Her natural endearing senses enable her to be a support for us when we are falling on tough times with our mental health. We did some research and found that we can get her certified as a licensed "Therapy Dog". (Not to be confused with a "Service Dog") Basically, she would be trained to provide support to people with mental illnesses and anger issues to help them manage and deal with their symptoms. She would be able to go into a Senior's home, or a School, or a workplace and be available for people to come and just get some love and play; kind of like an emotional pick-me-up.

So the big question is, how does this tie into my Niche? Well, before we can even get her certified, she needs some basic skills training. Simple things like loose-leash walking, or patience (such as the 'stay' command) are requirements. Now, dog lessons are expensive and we are frugal people. I like to consider myself a smart guy, so I figure why pay someone to train the dog when I can likely learn and do it myself? Hence the decision on the Niche. Puppy Training Made Easy. I am not exactly sure what to expect at this point but I guess my goal is to own a website that would provide resources and suggest products to help people that want to train their own pups or dogs, whether they have the same reason as me or not; more or less just because dogs do require a lot of attention and training!

Hopefully things work out for the best.

This is a great post and you can do it because my husband and I both have PTSD and depression and anxiety so I know where you are coming from.

We have a service dog we had partly trained him ourselves but then my husband health has been failing along with me so we found a training center closer and he is fully trained.

We got our training for free because my husband served in the military too so maybe you should look into that aspect of it because since you served in the military as well.

It won't hurt to try to found out and that way you can learn exactly what training the dog needs. It is just a suggestion of course. I am just trying to help you out.

Well I'm glad my post has already reached out and touched people and I have barely started my website. I hope the content I put on there will one day help people like us out a lot.

As far as the military paying for it, we looked into it with Veterans Affairs Canada and unfortunately I was approximately 2 service months short of qualifying. (I needed 6 years and I only had 5 years 10 months). Plus the way the feds have been hacking away at our veterans benefits lately I'm surprised we don't have more homeless vets killing themselves than we already do. Anyway, I don't want to rant about the negative things on here. We were lucky enough to find the resources we needed to get Bailey certified as a Therapy Dog and she is just wonderful. And it cost us under $500 out of pocket to do so!!! It is absolutely awesome!

Having a therapy dog around has changed my life and I couldn't imagine life without her.

I understand you being short in time but you are right but here in the U. S. there are homeless vets that don't want help at all they rather live on the street which sometimes I don't understand but that is how it is though.

I am so happy that you have your dog because we feel the same way about our service dog. We just couldn't imagine life without him.

I know it will work out for you as long as you dedicate time to the site using material WA has laid out

Its a need out there and I believe you will fill that need with valuable content helping others along the way
