My thoughts after 2 years at Wealthy Affiliate

After 2 years I have definitely learned a lot from being here with still much to learn and I am thankful I signed up. This is definitely not a get rich quick scheme and there are no shortcuts to success, but I can clearly see the rules for success now.

I have had ups and downs mostly due to other things going on in my life taking away my attention from focusing on my site and learning more about affiliate marketing, but I'm not done yet. I took a break from everything for the past 5 months, but I plan on getting back in the game this winter.

One thing that happens when you dive into all this is you learn your strengths and weaknesses. You are learning so many things at once like writing, researching, building a website, SEO, digital marketing, using social media properly, etc. that it becomes clear very quickly where your character flaws are. Disciplining yourself to research or write an article and properly source it when you don't want to can be a challenge, especially when you have many other things on your plate in life.

Another weakness of mine that revealed itself was perfectionism. Perfectionism can be crippling when you need to create content on a consistent basis. They say content is king so I wanted to be the king of content. The problem with that is that you won't rank in Google very fast if you aren't adding new content on a consistent basis. So I tortured myself trying to perfectly source every statement in my articles while still trying to add new articles on a regular schedule. Paralysis by analysis is not an exaggerated warning.

One last thought would be my choice of niche. My niche is definitely over saturated, but I thought I could stand out with my different approach to it. The topics on my site are probably too broad of a niche as well. I would have probably researched niches a little more before I picked one next time.

So I'm just trying to be as honest and open as possible. My goal isn't to discourage anyone, but to warn about some of the mistakes I made. I look forward to seeing where I progress in the next year or two.

Thank you Kyle, Carson, and everyone else here especially those that have helped me along the way.
