Little Bit of Whining, Little Bit of Uncertainty

So as I've been going about writing and building my website I've realized that I don't have as much passion for it as I thought. In other words I think it is time to ditch/rework that site.

In the meantime I am trying to figure out an audience and niche that I can be passionate about and really offer some real value. I feel like I don't know terribly much about one particular thing. While I know a lot about a lot of stuff. A jack of all trades and master of none so to speak. Also known as a product of the current education system. But that is a post for another day.

How Do I Find A New Niche and Audience?

Second question to that is which do you figure out first? I should probably go back through the getting started lessons and give them another look. At the same time I want to hear a bit from the community and what has been successful along with what has not been successful.

Some questions I would like answered:

  1. What process did you use to come up with a niche?
  2. How did you determine your audience?

So that is about all I have for thoughts right now...I'd love it if you could leave me your thoughts. Thanks and have a spectacular day!

In my experience I tried working with a partner on a promising niche but I found if they are not as passionate as you it isn't going to work out. I started over on my own. In my new niche I have a strong interest which helps in writing when I don't feel like doing it.

That does typically happen when you have more than one person working on a project. Glad to hear that you've started over on your own and are doing well at it.

HI Nichole, have you considered using your experience in the Navy as inspiration in finding a niche? How much travel have you done? What are your hobbies and interests while off duty?

I had not. I've only travled a little bit so I don't think I have enough content to do a lot.

I have so many hobbies and interests! I get the ohh shiny syndrome and switch things up constantly. Thanks for your suggestions.

When I set up my niche I chose something that I knew and enjoyed felt that would help me concentrate on the learning aspect, as we go along sometimes we naturally change course and head towards something else and that is fine, whilst I still love weddings I am now more focus on one aspect of it

That's what I really went with on the first site. Get a site together that I can learn as I went through the lessons. I've just found I'm at that place where I'm like I can't keep this up on this site. I think I'll keep certain parts of it (it got a little disjointed) and then focus more on those.

I had my niche prior to coming to WA but I needed a vehicle to get it out in the public. I am only doing this due to passion and commitment I have in my niche.

Passion and commitment are both things that are needed to create success. I'll be sure to think about things I have passion about.

I knew that in order to keep me interested, the niche would have to be something which I had knowledge in, passion about, knew I could talk about, and most importantly, knew I could come up with content for. So what are your passions, hobbies, interests? What can you chat about to your friends without there being an awkward silence as you try to think of something to say? They are good starting points. Get a good old fashioned pen and paper and start making some lists and do a bit of brain storming with yourself. One idea might lead to another, overlapping area etc. Let us know how you get on :)

Will do, focusing on just one is usually the problem. Thanks!

I came up with my niche by thinking what is I think about all the time.

I think about a lot of stuff all the time. My brain has that glitch I like to call "oooh shiny" lol

Looks like I have to dig a bit deeper, thanks!

hahahahaha! How about a 'shiny objects' niche?!!

My last post on enlightenidiots.com talks about how meditation can get that gltch out of there. Just trying to be helpful LOL

I've been trying to start a meditation habit, yet so far I've been unsuccessful. I'll check out your post, maybe this time the habit will stick. :)

Hi NicholePaige
•Meditaion lower cortisol levels (the stress hormone)…

•Deactivates the sympathetic nervous system (the source of “fight or flight”)…

•Activates the parasympathetic nervous system (the source of the “relaxation response”)…

•Lowers blood pressure, and…

•Causes many positive changes in important hormones and neurochemicals.

An impressive list of benefits!
Hoping you stick with this time. Try adding some Now Solution oil and some 528 hz . music. Happy Sailing.

I came up with my niche by thinking about what I am passionate about. I also wanted to help people. I am blessed with a great pastor so I get ideas from his messages. You do such a good job helping others. I would think of ways you could continue to help others outside of WA.

Thanks for saying that Joy. I am for sure going to look at that as an option. Have a spectacular day, well tomorrow since it is midnight there when I am writing it.

I looked at the things in my life that I was most passionate about; family, friends, cooking and the outdoors. That was my jumping off point.
From there, I looked at what I was best at teaching and talking about. That narrowed it down to cooking and outdoors. There was no way I was qualified, even with all my huge family, to speak to that sector.
I finally settled on cooking, but with a twist. I added budget counseling and training to the mix and came up with my niche - The Budget Chef.
That's where I'm at now and very happy in it.
That was the process for me. Hope this helps.

That's a very creative way to go about it. Especially combining two ideas together. I really like that idea. Your suggestion totally helps, I'm glad you took the time to describe it to me.

Thanks and have a spectacular day!

You too, Nichole. There's always a good spot at the end of the tunnel. I had to dodge a few trains enroute. No biggie.
