Write what you know

My mother was a very wise woman. She knew I loved to write. She also knew I was happy just flapping my jaw. What could be better than having a safe place to "chat" - for money even? I sat on the fence after my week was up. I'm a bit OCD so i actually needed to "begin at the beginning" so to speak and the 1st of the month seemed ideal.

I did it! Took me a little longer than a week, though - :-) Yes. I upgraded to Premium. And, yes. I will most likely upgrade to annual because the savings are phenomenal ($30/month instead of $50/month? Are you crazy! Of course that makes the most sense!) I just needed to watch and actively participate before committing my wallet. I've never seen any other affiliate marketing company that provides THIS MUCH VALUE for money! The starter package was more than worth the price (provide an email address - that's it - are you kidding me?) and the very detailed and knowledgeable training provided was more than I've ever received - anywhere. I've been searching - for at least 36 years - for a way to get paid to do what I love - write and talk. What could be simpler?

I've thought about this a lot (well, in the last 10 days. That's how long it took before I took the leap.) Whenever I would write papers for English class (so long ago) or come up with stories for my own personal pleasure, my mother would say "Just write what you know. Your life is amazing enough. You don't need to make anything up," and she was right. Once upon a time, I worked for a rather exacting man, with very clear goals and ideas. He was a little too rigid for me so I drafted a murder mystery starring my boss and my coworkers. I got an A on that particular English assignment - mostly because the characters were so genuine. It amused me. I never published it because it was never meant for other readers but it still gave me a great deal of satisfaction and pride.

When I started here at WA, I wracked my brain trying to come up with ideas - for niches, for keywords, for my brand spanking new website but I was stumped. I watched the videos and it was reiterated over and over - "write about what makes you passionate" which sounds an awful lot like my mother's words. Once I just stopped trying and started thinking about what makes me want to get up each day or what makes me happy the ideas just started pouring out. I know we're told to come up with ideas within 15 or 30 minutes but I just set it aside and it turns out I couldn't sleep. I got up and wrote on a notepad - niches, keywords, stories I wanted to write... I was finally able to go back to bed once I emptied my brain onto the page. Of course I woke up with even more ideas (which I subsequently wrote down) but I was happy. If you're passionate about something write what you know. It's as simple as that. Your experiences and your joys (and your sorrows) shape you. No one is like you. No one SHOULD be like you! Take some time. Generate ideas. Write it down (or speak into your phone - don't limit yourself.) Go back to bed. Wake up energized and take the next step.
