Hello, Wealthy Affiliates!

I just had a confusing situation when I referred a person to WA and this person went to another's person network, not mine.

I have used my affiliate link which I took from my dashboard and shortened it through Bit.ly.

So I have no idea why this happened as it seems that I have done everything correctly.

How is this possible?

I feel very confused about this. Is this a system that sometimes doesn't work properly?

Here is a screenshot of the person's profile that I have reffereed to WA.

The person to whose network he went, is not even active here on WA. So I am confused even more.

Is there anybody here who eventually have faced the same issue?

Hello, Wealthy Affiliates!

So this is not the first time happenning to me. I have had another referal whom I was talking too, gave him my link and he went to another person network.

That second time I said, alright, this is because probably somebody else already given him his link, he didn't cleared his cookies and cashes and that is why he went to that person network, not mine.

In the last couple of days, I have been talking to a lady, about Wealthy Affiliate learning platform and all the possibilities to build an online business.

It turned to be that she already had an account here. But she got back to me to ask for quidance and one-on-one-coaching.

I have checked her profile, and found that the person to whose network she went, is not active on the platform, he doesn't even have a bio information filled in his profile, he doesn't have any blogs written here, any questions asked.

I said to her that I can help her to get started, but if she wants to get an one-on-one coaching with me, she will need to sign up again, with my link, and before, clear all the cookies and cashes.

She did all I have said to her, but still, this lady is not on my network, she went to Kyle and Carson's network.

I really want to know how is this possible? Isn't this a way of loosing referals?

If yes, this is really discouraging and embarasing. I hope someone has an answer for me!

If they went to another person's network it was because that email address was already associated Another persons Affiliate link. So for instance if someone creates a starter account in 2014 and they don't do anything with it and they have started with the email
Ihavetoomanyemail addresses@gmail.com

They don't do anything with this Starter mandates never actually deleted. So that means when they apply again with the same email address even though they've done it through your affiliate link the first one stands.

In other words the first affiliate link stands for life. It sadly means in this case that you've lost an affiliate commission but in the future if somebody clicks your link first and then click someone else's later you will get a commission from that.

I hope this makes sense

I understand, but the lady has created her first account in June 2019 and went to this person:

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/danois

After that, she cleared her cookie and cache and registered using my link, and the network she went is Kyle and Carson's

How is that possible?

You are confusing I think the mentor and the person who referred them. In my explanation above I was referring to the person who referred them. The mentor is a new thing and it has nothing to do with the referral if that makes sense. For instance, my mentor is Carson but he is not The person who referred me to wealthy affiliate
Also clearing her cookies does not clear the cookies at wealthy affiliate's so you will always go to your first referral as a commission. Irrespective of whether you did any about it or at a later date you wanted to Be someone else's referral if you have registered with that email address before it's fixed. It's a lifetime cookie and it can't be changed once it's in the system

The mentor is a new thing? Possibly this is something I don't know about yet.

When people sign up using my link, I appear the third person in their network, after Kyle and Carson.

That was evidence for me that this person is in my network, and this will be me who will be guiding them along the way, besides Kyle and Carson.

And I will get a commission if this person will decide to upgrade.

In this particular case, I don't show up in this lady's network, it's only Kyle and Carson who shows up.

This indicates that this lady is not on my network. I am still very confused about this situation.

I now have specified with the lady and she confirmed that she had used a different email today, than when registering in June.

I still want to understand. In my example, the person who referred me to WA is Grace, but it also appears on my dashboard that my coach is Kyle. Who gets the commission in this case?

As far as I know, Grace and Kyle will share my Yearly membership.

It is your referral partner Who gets the full commission. Your coach does not get anything unless they are your referral partner which in this case they're not. So in Grace's case she will have got the full commission. There is never any sharing of commissions. The coach or the mentor is just a person you can theoretically go to to get help

Aren't we earning 50% commissions from WA memberships? If a monthly membership costs $49 per month, then for referring people to WA, we earn $24.50.

Also, I don't understand if the cookies are lifetime, then why when this lady signed up with a different email, she still didn't go to the first person who referred her to WA, in this case - https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/danois,

I suggest that you put something in Kyle's profile page and also email him Bear in mind he is in Vegas at the moment. As an aside which you probably won't believe in the 14 years I've been here I have never once seen a proven case of the affiliate commission going to the wrong place there is always an answer even if you can't see it at the moment.

Thank you, Catherine, for all your valuable support, I will follow your advice and contact Kyle for this matter.

I remember reading somewhere that the referral will go to the FIRST referral link that the person clicked on, so if that person ever clicked on somebody else's affiliate link before yours, then that first link gets the referral.

The cookies for WA is lifetime so the IP address of that referral saves the information (the affiliate link) for the lifetime of the IP address. That's how even though that person might have clicked on your referral link to sign up, the FIRST person gets the credit.

At least, that's how I understand it. Anybody else can correct me if I'm wrong.

But if that's how it works, then the same thing might happen for you; where if a referral clicks on your link first, for some reason does not sign up right away to WA, then signs up at a later date using another referral link, you would get the credit for it for leading them to WA.

At least from my perspective, it makes sense since the WA cookie last for the lifetime of the IP address.

Excellent, straightforward explanation Reyhana. I read the same thing too and now you have me frantically searching WA for the exact wording. I think it might be in one of the training videos.

Nice work!

No worries... :) I think the same thing might have happened to me a few times, which is why I remember it. But yes, it might be in one of the training videos in Bootcamp.

Thanks.. :)

Thank you, Reyhana, this cleared things up a bit for me.

You’re welcome

It is a lifetime cookie
