Can I be an affiliate of more than one company on the same site?

YES! EVERY micro-niche gives you the opportunity for a new product or service you can be an affiliate of and there's no "rule" about how many you can or can't promote on your site.

You could be an affiliate of several different companies or of a huge conglomerate like Amazon, who has practically every product anyone could want.

HOWEVER... there are a lot of factors to keep in mind. Just a few are;
1. People won't buy through your link if they don't trust you.
2. People might become disinterested in your site if they feel too much of what you post is an attempt to get them to spend money.
3. A great way to earn trust is to help people without trying to get something in return. Having some content that doesn't have an affiliate link is an easy way to do that.
4. If people like and trust you, they'll stay on your site longer and return to see what great new content you've added. Both those things help you rank higher and earn more authority with search engines (Google, Bing, etc.)
5. Not all, but several companies have criteria your site must meet before they'll accept you as an affiliate. The two I see most often are site age and amount of traffic (number of visitors per month).

Do these 3 things and the money will come;
1. Focus on WA's training.
2. Make "providing help" the priority of your website.
3. Let your personality shine through.

But I want to build a micro-niche site, solely for promoting one affiliated product.

That's great! Running such a site would probably be very fun and relatively stress-free.

If the post containing your affiliate link is convincing, you have a great "About" page and you provide some bonus content, your site could do really well!

I've mentioned Jay's* micro-niche affiliate site before, but I'll do it again in this post. If you want an example of a micro-niche site done right, his is the one to see!

Jay has posts about football snack helmets on https://footballsnackhelmets.com/. Each of those posts contains his affiliate link to the product. He also provides recipes and (humorous) washing instructions without tying either into an affiliated product. These are both examples of bonus content. He's giving something for nothing. That helps people like and trust him.

Stellar, stellar advice, kiddo!!!

Multiple affiliates isn't ever a problem! But a stuffy, junky looking website with a 'Buy Me' jumping out at ya' from every dark corner is an absolute NO-NO!

Hey, hey, Randy: burning the midnight oil, I see! ;)

Right - a catalog isn't what WA's teaching us to build, lol.

I think it's when too many are taken on too fast, that multiple affiliate programs could be a huge problem.

It wouldn't be difficult to keep up with changes to their Terms of Service and affiliate agreements if you only had a couple. But, imagine if you were new to affiliate marketing, and signed up for 5 or 6 before you really knew what you were doing.

One mistake is all it takes to get dropped from a program. If you happen to have a payment pending when that happens - too bad: most of them keep it. :(

Yah, I really do think that when you're new at this, ya' really should just get one affiliate going and master that one before dinking around with another one.

You're so right... one little mistake and poof.... you're starting over!

Thank you, Sharon

You're very welcome, Carol. :)

It's a matter also of how great a management load you take on in affiliation!

Hi, Michael.

Isn't THAT the truth?!

I'm not sure I can even fully imagine how big a nightmare it would be, to take on too many affiliations too soon.

Thanks much, for giving that very important warning!

Sharon

You can definitely have more than one affiliate program on your site, and even on a page - the site is yours, so the decision is yours. You shouldn't join the same affiliate program via more than one network though.

Amazon doesn't sell everything. I have countless merchants who refuse to work with Amazon; their products are only available on their sites. Think about it - if everyone is selling only Amazon products, what can you possibly offer that makes you any different? Everyone is offering pretty much the same stuff.

Yeah, I work for a network, but even before I did, I've always believed that while people may shop on Amazon, they will read a blog looking for something different, something special, something unique that everyone else doesn't have. Take advantage of that when choosing what to promote.

With Amazon's 1 day cookie and recent lowering of commission rates (while posting record profits!), you'll often find a longer cookie and much higher commission rates from other advertisers. Just something to consider.

Hi, Jeannine.

You make such great points. Thanks for giving your input!

I hope everyone will read the comments too, not just the post.

I've heard Amazon referred to as "the Walmart of the internet". It's a fair comparison: they seem to have the same operating "principles".

You're right, Amazon doesn't sell everything - yet. Bookstores, grocery stores - which brick & mortar business do you think they'll delve into next - gas stations? pet shops?

I live in one of the states Amazon bans affiliates from. So, I couldn't be an affiliate without setting up a work-around. To me, it's not worth the effort.

I choose not to affiliate with Walmart either.

With your vast knowledge and experience, it's a shame you haven't made any posts or trainings here yet. Do you think you might some day? They'd be an astounding resource for the community, I have no doubt!

I'm now following you: if you do decide to enrich us with your expertise, I don't want to miss anything!

As soon as I wrap up what I'm working on, I'm going to check out Awin. I've heard of it (often), just never looked into it before. And, would you believe - until I read it on your profile - I never knew "Awin" is short for "Affiliate Window"?

I'm working on a large project for WA right now. Once that launches, I'll be doing blog posts on topics like cross device tracking, FTC compliance, the growth of mobile, etc.

I don't even know what "cross device tracking" MEANS, but I know it must be something incredible! (No need to tell me now. I'll wait for your post.)

This is the most exciting news I've had for a LONG time!
