Juneteenth.OMG, I Had No Clue!
Hello everyone, hope you are all doing fabulous.
This article is to laugh at my ignorance and to empower others.
So, yesterday, my girlfriend ended her text message with - 'Have a great weekend and I am so looking forward to my Juneteenth day.'
Now, in my mind, I had no clue that such a word - Juneteenth - existed, much less to mean something. I thought she was just being her usual comical self and just misspelling words as she usually does.
However, I had to delve into some research on the word...BECAUSE, as soon as I turned on my computer, my calendar, 'reminded' me about 'Juneteenth Day'...OK, this got my attention...what on earth is Juneteenth Day?
So...went to dear Uncle G and searched...found this from Wikipedia:
'Texas was the most remote of the slave states, and ... The name of the observance is a portmanteau of "June" and "nineteenth", the date of its celebration.'
I was educated in an instant. I had no clue.
Of course, I decided to share this with the community, just in case there are others like me who need to know that Juneteenth is not a misspelling TODAY - June 19th - but indeed a celebration of history.
I hope you found this informative as I did and enjoyed sharing it.
Have a great day and weekend ahead.
Namaste
Michelle

Like you, Michelle, I had never heard of Juneteenth until a few days ago on TV when Trump rescheduled his rally due to the date. I think it's a shame that such an important day in US history commemorating the end of slavery has not been honored and celebrated as a national holiday.

I had no idea either Michelle.
I struggle to understand these Northern Hemisphere events.
Pretty clueless actually.
Last weekend I was invited (more or less dragged), to help devour some beer in celebration of fathers day.
Yesterday, I was asked if I am ready for Saturday.
I asked what was happening on Saturday, to be told, it is fathers day.
????
I am off to the shops later to buy my own beer.
I didn't think much of the stuff I was fed last weekend.
Michael.
LOL...too funny, M. But I TOTALLY get it, and you are not alone.
Have a great weekend
