Hello Guys 'n Dolls!

I hope you all had a great weekend and so far, a wonderful Monday to get the week going...and remember, it's going to get to the next day - with or without you!

LOL

A warped bit of humor.

Anyway, I was reading an article by James Altucher...How to get people to like you in 5 secs or less. Here are the summary points...take what you will...or better still, let me know if it works!

  1. Ask a question
  2. Smile
  3. Listen
  4. Shut down your brain
  5. Dress nice
  6. Everyone has it hard - don't fake sympathy or sincerity - respect everyone's battle
  7. Relate
  8. Interrupt
  9. Make people laugh
  10. Be yourself!

I found these points very interesting. I have not tried them out yet.

Please let me know when you do!

Namaste

1. Pay them a compliment.
Everyone has something you can compliment them on - and if they're having a rough day you'll brighten it for them.

Saw this girl in the post office once. She was NOT having a good day. She was plain, looked a mess, as glum as glum can be and her attitude made it clear we customers were all sheer pain. I had to wait in line so I watched her - and thought to myself "Must be something - I think she likes her hair."

So I said "Your hair looks lovely today."
She perked up, half glared, said "You really think so?"
I said "Yes - it's lovely shiny."

That's all it took to make her day better and brighter; 5 words put a spring in her step and a smile on her dial - Don't even know her name but I have never forgotten her. It was like a flower finding the sun and I still look for her in the PO. If she sees me she still smiles and waves.

So. Pay a compliment.
(+NB. It's not a compliment if it doesn't sound genuine.)

Absolutely! I couldn't agree more. I try to give 3 compliments each day - nothing over the hill - just genuine thoughts. Thanks so much for sharing, Cate ( my 1st compliment for today:)

Does no. 4 have anything to do with the white noise of daily distractions? If so, I have to work on that one! :)

Great list! Thanks for sharing.

1

LOL...shut down your brain- it means just take a five - right there and then - just don't try to dissect, over-cook, over-analyze, over-everything.
M

I like #10 best. It's hard to be someone else.

1

Indeed, so much easier.
M

I can try most of them, but my brain usually shuts down of it's own accord! Thanks, Michelle :)

2

Lol. I know what you mean!!! :D

1

LOL...too funny!
M

I don't understand 8. Interrupt.

1

Hey there, Jean.
Just that - if someone is talking, just say 'excuse me, did you just say....yahda, yahda, yahda' - interrupt their speech vs waiting till they are finished and you forgot what you wanted to ask them then and there.
M

1

Agreed. It doesn't seem to fit and I would find it hard to do. Most people don't like to be interrupted IMHO.

2

I see now. Probably it's because you condensed what the author said, that is, didn't give his elaboration of "Interrupt" and that's why it didn't make sense.

1

Okay with your elaboration that does make sense. To me that also falls under active listening, but I don't want to split hairs. :).

2

No worries...ask and you shall receive...thanks for asking and I hope it helped.

#4 seems to be happening to me too often! lol!

3

LOL.

Let's see. I've done pretty much all of these. At work lol
3, 6, 7, 9 & 10 are my main ones. I work in public transportation. I love to drive. And I love talking to people. Most days there's 9 out of 10 passengers with whom I carry on with and have a good time. That's the NUT in me :-)

1

LOL..hey, Marsha.
It's all about connecting.

When I tried #4 I fell face down on the ground and this probably negated some of the other points. However, I did hear some #9 in the background. Thanks Michelle !!

1

LOL..Shawn, you've got #9 going for you indeed...

Great list. Paying someone a genuine compliment also works well in my experience.

1

Yup, I agree.
M

2,3,10! M! :)

1

Yup, sounds like a plan.
