To avoid or confront - is there a good path ?

For some of us, confrontation is a difficult matter. Right or wrong, we all know this dilemma. We go round and round on the same questions - should I bring it up? Or should I keep it to myself? Unless it is something that would seriously be detrimental, I try to avoid confrontation.
Perhaps the neighbors dog keeps you up at night. โ Should I talk to them? , you wonder. At first you decide not to: โMaybe the barking will stop. Maybe Iโll get used to it.โ At some point, the dog will be quiet. And as you are ready to get your much needed sleep, the dog barks again. As you toss and turn, you decided that you are going to talk to the neighbors once and for all.

Now you lie awake for a different reason. The thought of getting into a fight with the neighbors about their dog makes you nervous. You are now making a script in your mind on how to approach with out bringing the situation into an argument.
You want the neighbors to like you. Perhaps youโre overreacting. Eventually, you come back to thinking itโs better to say nothing, and this calms your nerves. But as you drop off to sleep, that darn dog howls and barks incessantly, and your cycle of indecision starts anew.

There doesnโt seem to be any choice that will allow you to sleep.
Why is it so difficult to decide whether to avoid or to confront? Because at some level we know the truth: If we try to avoid the problem, weโll feel taken advantage of, our feelings will fester, and weโll wonder why we donโt stick up for ourselves, and weโll rob the other person of the opportunity to improve the situation. But if we confront the problem, things might even get worse. We may be rejected or attacked; we might hurt the other person in ways we didnโt intend; and the relationship might suffer.
And there goes the alarm, itโs time to get up and face another day. At this time, the neighbors โ dog is nowhere to be seen. Probably exhausted from the entire night of howling and barking.

Hello Friend Maria!
Good topic! That was a nice post.
Sorry to hear you experienced it, my friend.
I think I will not use confrontation.
I preferred. Good communication is key in any situation or relationship, "to a friend or neighborhood," and approaching the situation with empathy and understanding can go a long way toward finding a solution that works for everyone. And be happy! :-)))
Have a lovely Saturday.
Thanks,
Joyce:-)
Iโm like you, Maria. I get along pretty well with everyone.
Luckily, we live in a very nice neighborhood. The kind of place where people walk behind their dog with a little scoop and a bag for when the animal does its business on someone else's lawn. Lol
Our house is surrounded by about 1.5 acres of land so whatever noise I make doesnโt bother anyone. ๐

It all depends upon the circumstances to me Mariaster!
I try my best to avoid confrontations whenever possible but.... on occasion confronting others when the issue gets out of hand is the only course of action!!
I have my pup, but she never starts barking or howling by herself.... if other dogs start it though then she can join in!!
Have a wonderful start to Frisatsu my friend!
Cheers!

I've had to confront some annoying neighbors MANY times, Maria. They felt the urge to share their loud music with everyone else, OR a married couple who felt the need to raise their voices so the neighbors could hear their engaging conversation! ๐
But fortunately, I've always had a mediator to intervene on my behalf - a friendly cop who lived next door to me or the landlord, who I was on good terms with.

Hey Maria!
I hope you feel better, and you'll get answers and good results next week!
Take care,
Jena
I'm sorry you that you are dealing with this, Maria.
I hope this isn't an every night occurrence but if it is let the manager know. Or simply call out.
