3 Social Media Marketing Tips For Dummies

I remember 9 years ago when I was using Metroflog, my space and Facebook when FB was a baby. And what it comes to my mind is that this was totally new for me I was a kid so I wasn't very familiar with watch content every minute, so any type of post no matter how stupid or boring it was, I used to read it or at least take a look at it.

Guys I am talking about 9 years ago when we used to have Nokia's harder than a blinded car.

Today the rules have changed, know even a goldfish has more, a goldfish shrinking attention spans= 8 seconds humans have 7 seconds.

And it gets better 50% of the world's population is under 30.

If social networks where countries the top 10 most populate will look like this:

1- Facebook

2-China

3-India

4-Youtube

5-Tencent QQ

6-WhatsApp

7-Instagram

8-LinkedIn

9-Twitter

10-USA

What I am basically trying to say is, that if you want to succeed, you have no choice you need to handle well social media.

-You mean that I need to work with all social media sites, right? so people will find me everywhere?

-MMMM.... Definitely no, why would you make a Pinterest campaign if your value market is upper-class gentleman's of 26 to 34 years old with motorcycles and trucks hobbies.80% of Pinterest users are girls between 16 to 32 years old, I am sure you will find some people that might be interested in your product but instead of making this you can focus a 100% in only the social media that you are 100% sure your value market is using.

This was actually a real conversation I had with a client and is more common than what you think, so let's get started.

TIP #1: KNOW YOUR VALUE MARKET

I find very interesting all this marketing stuffs cause it remembers me to when I was single and was trying to date with a girl from the major leagues (very hot and popular girls), before I take action I used... this might sound psycho or sick but I used to stalk them on social media and start making a whole research like, who are their friends?, what sports does she play? , what kind of movies and music does she like? where does she go to party or to hang out? who was his ex? who else is trying to date with her? are they more handsome than me? are they in a better shape than me?

So after my sick research and putting on a side my insecurities, at that point, I was ready to plan my attack, go to a place that I was 100% sure she will be there, break the ice, have a conversation related to their hobbies, mutual friends and stuffs she loves.

BINGO, now I have a date and she thinks I am interesting.

This is the metaphoric way I tell you guys to know your niche, know your competitors and know how they think. Try to be very very specific, like ages, average income, hobbies, struggles etc.

Once you are 100% sure where your vale market is, now you can start creating social network profiles.

TIP #2 UNDERSTANDING SOCIAL MEDIA AND THE SOCIAL ICEBERG

Social is deeper than you think it is like an iceberg, what we can see (FB, TW, Linkedin, Tumblr) it is just the top of the iceberg. I want to talk to you about something we call the :

Social Media Pyramid

This pyramid has 6 levels (in order from the top to the bottom)

1. SOCIAL NETWORKS SITES: FACEBOOK, TWITTER, TUMBLR, INSTAGRAM
   
2. NEW AGGREGATORS: HUFFING POST, E-MAGAZINES AND NEW TOPICS SITE
   
3. PASSION CONNECTIONS: PINTEREST, REDDIT, ETC
   
4. VIDEO CONNECTION: YOUTUBE, VINE AND VIMEO
   
5. BLOGS: THOUGHT LEADERS
   
6. VIRTUAL COMMUNITIES: FORUM, BOARDS, WA, FACEBOOK GROUPS, ETC
   

Social Networks exist worldwide and let individuals connect with each other and organizations that interest them. These sites are large and consist of individuals of every age, country, income and interest. Every conceivable topic is being discussed on a social network. We will use social networking sites to reach our target audience but, in most of the strategies, we will take them to other social levels to make a more significant engagement with them.

NEW AGGREGATOR SITE

These are news sites, e-journals and e-news, they designed to present, text, video and audio content to their target readers.

PASSION CONNECTION SITES:

These sites are designed to allow us to meet with others who support our passions and interest.

VIDEO CONNECTION SITES

It is amazing to think that today over 60 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute. It is important to note that YouTube is now the second largest search site....second only to Google.

THOUGHT LEADER SITES

This level consists of bloggers. Many don't realize how big, influential and persuasive they are. Today they are over 18.7 million blogs in existence on every conceivable topic.

Bonus-tip: Incorporate bloggers and blog articles to effectively reach and engage any target market. Using them and generating your own blog content are great ways to go directly to the target markets you want to impact.

VIRTUAL COMMUNITY SITES

This is the largest and the least understood part of the social media. Virtual communities are very different from social networks because they are extremely focused. Virtual communities can range from a few members to millions and are formed to address business, passions and personal needs.

Bonus-tip: Become part of these communities in a way that benefits them and your business.how would you do that? well, help them move from where they are today to the destination they want to reach or share with them new tips and trendy news it all depends on their needs. (It can be a "trigger event community" like pregnant women, new parents, etc) or a Passion Community. The difference is simple In trigger events groups they want guide by expert also this kind of communities have a start and a finish and passion communities have more establish members who look for tips and fresh and trendy news)

#3 QUALITY OVER QUANTITY

Remember the anecdote of me trying to date hot girls, well there is a big content quality metaphor.

Noticing that I was trying to date with a hot girl and also popular i realised that there where tons of guys more handsome than me, more popular, with much more money, sexier than me (I actually suspect that some of them where created in a Calvin Klein lab) so I realized that if I want to stand out of the rest of the competition I really need to become my best self and not just be another cool guy, hot guy or funny guy. So I focused on becoming a better version of my self physically, mentally and spiritually and it actually worked. So one day I was talking with her and I want it to take it to the next level and I am not talking in a sexual way, so I confessed her something very personal about my self and BINGO that was the key. After that, she starts telling me deeper and personal stuff and at that point, we created a more serious relationship.

What did I learn here? "Quality over quantity and Give to get"

The same with your content, you need content that creates an impact on your value market gives them a reason to spend their time reading your blog, watching your video or looking at your images.

The more value content you give to them or the more you help them with their needs or struggles the more they will consider you to make a purchase or take a decision.
