Finding the Right Niche

I started my niche on hair removal because it's something I know a lot about and I know there are lots of products that go with hair removal, but then I ran into trouble. When I was writing my content, it felt like I was writing an instructions manual. I was struggling to write something interesting and suddenly the entire subject got incredibly boring. There's only so much to talk about when it comes to hair removal.

To make things more complicated my husband has been sulky and snappy at me for being on the computer more than I am usually. It was getting to full-blown arguments. My dream of an online career was dimming really quick unless I figured out a creative solution. I decided to talk to my husband about how my website was not going so good because I was bored with my niche. I rambled on and talked about how my original niche about wildlife didn't seem to have much opportunity in it and he looked at me like I was crazy. The outdoors has a strong market he said and I realized he was right. I don't know what I was thinking.

We both love the outdoors and spend every opportunity we can outside whether it be the mountains, a city park, or our own backyard. I had found my niche and told my husband he should contribute content too.

Now things have been going much better. I've narrowed my niche down and ideas for the next post don't stop. Writing content has become a breeze because I love what I'm writing about. My husband and I are also not fighting anymore. The kids are even excited too because I can include them.

I've learned that just because I might have extensive knowledge in something doesn't mean it's my passion. I've always believed that the people who are successful and happy have a career doing something they love. It's too early for me to say I've achieved success but now that I'm doing something I love and that my family loves too, I'm happy and that's enough.

Nice story

That's cool that you figured that out. I started a few different niches also in the past few years that I could not drag myself to write for my site. So i did the same thing. Found a better niche.

I wish my husband wanted to do something like this. He has a wood working business on the side and I have built him a simple site to showcase his work. Trying to find people that actually want to pay money for custom furniture (not Walmart prices) is difficult. I can picture him with a better website. One with tons of how to articles and videos on woodworking or how to stain or whatever. I can't get him interested though.

I figure I will have to make a go of my own site first and once I am making money, maybe he will change his tune :)

Ha, just had a thought. Maybe a woodworking niche would not work for my husband for the same reason you state. Maybe the thought of writing about it instead of actually building furniture is not very interesting to him.

I'm going to leave him alone now. LOL

I like your idea. There really are so many ideas to get his custom furniture going with his own website.
I know with my husband he is a hands on type of person and averse to technology. He doesn't really understand it. Since he doesn't understand it, he rejects it except for making a purchase for something he can't find in a nearby store, checking his FB profile, and watching YouTube videos.

When it comes to making money online through affiliate marketing I don't know anyone personally that has a knowledge of that. I feel like an odd duck most of the time. My family rolls their eyes when i talk about my website.

I have the same issue except they just politely smile and then change the subject.
